Wasn't sure where to post this but... I'm starting the work on the second pedal scroll saw in my collection and need some info. I know there's got to be someone out there that's a cesspool of knowledge just waiting to be tapped. The MF 387 (circa 1887) saw I'm now working on has a dust blower attachment on it that the New Rogers didn't have and I need to know if someone has any details or pictures of what the bellows or back of the blower looked like. It attaches to the rear of the lower arm by means of a rod and arm. I have all the parts but the bellows. After all these it seems to have rotted away... imagine that. This is another one of those pieces I'll be re-nickeling. Anyone help?

Can't help with original specs, Pop, but you can probably find something to fit from a modern industrial bellows producer. They are very popular for use in robotics. Here's a promising-looking company: Gagne Inc. Custom made sealed bellows, sewn bellows and way covers. And if you need to look further: ThomasNet® - Category Search Results: Product/Service My thinking is that if you can't find an original to copy immediately, maybe you can use a vinyl one temporarily. Great work on these old saws, btw. Your experimentation with nickel plating is also very interesting. |

Ok.. here's the pictures. The FIRST is the New Rogers with the striping and gilt on the letters. It's done and will become part of Ethel's tool inventory for shows. The SECOND is the New Rogers and Millers Falls side-by-side. The THIRD is the MF 387 as I was tearing it down. The FIFTH is a shot of the completed MF 387 left side. A little different than the New Rogers as it has a link between the lower arm and the cam. The New Rogers runs directly from the cam through the lower arm itself. The FORTH is the Millers Falls now. Unlike the New Rogers, I completely striped and sand blasted the MF's frame and all metal parts. Than repainted with black lacquer before re-assembling it. I plated the MF's dust blower head too today. I cut and installed the leather belt and a blade and ran it for a few seconds. It actually runs pretty smooth and I think I'll even try a cut tomorrow.

let's see you cut something out with it..... better yet...you have any way of making a video with the saws in action.. Mike, they both look great... be careful when you go to those shows, the saws might get more attention than that old truck of yours.. BTW, I can not believe how good the airplane project turned out, thanks again for your help... Trout |
