Default Edge Sander Question

Please share any thoughts and experiences with the RIDGID occillating edge/spindle sander for general use. Since they are apparently not made any longer, I wonder if they have had a history of too many problems? There is a lightly used one for sale which I am interested in. Thanks in advance,
Dale

Dale,
If I had to guess, It would be a problem with keeping the belt in alignment.

Home Depot still has these listed with a number of good reviews. Here is a link: RIDGID Oscillating Edge/belt Spindle Sander - EB4424 at The Home Depot

Default Ridgid Sander

I bought a Ridgid Oscillating Spindle/belt sander about 3yrs. ago and have had no problems with it what so ever. It is the only spindle sander I have so it gets a fair bit of use. As for the belt sander it has not given me any more problems than my other belt sander in respect to the belt tracking. This is of course only my opinion but I am very happy with this sander. Ray

Thank you to those who have replied and those who may still share their experience with this sander. The majority of the reviews I have read on line today, have been quite positive.
As you all know, this forum is so very helpful to educate and share.
Thanks, Dale

I have one of those. and just love it. the only thing is mine. is so big. and I use it to clean out inside clock openings. and other holes. but it is so big, I would love to have a smaller version. but love it. sometimes, don't like the up and down sanding. wish it would just turn . but do love mine. your friend Evie

Home Depot does in fact have these and Ridgid is still making them. I was incorrect in what I had originally thought. In fact HD also has the Ridgid sleeves for them. Some out there may be glad to know that, since one of the main negative comments I found, was the difficulty in finding sleeves that would fit correctly. I think it will do what I need, so will probably pick one up tomorrow for $199.00 If anyone wants followup on how it works out, let me know.
Thanks again all, Dale

At the Wood show in Indy this past January, Ridgid was selling those sanders, reconditioned, for $130. The rep said that the Wood Shows are the only place Ridgid sells their recon machines. So if the Wood Show is coming to a place near you ...

Wow!! What a good buy that wood (LOL) be. I did go out to HD and got mine for the $199.00 The minor assembly was a breeze and after a quick read of the included manual, I gave it a little trial run. So far with the VERY limited time I have had with it, I really like it. The belt tracks very well and is easy to adjust. Changing over to the spindle is very easy. It runs very quietly and with very little vibration. So far I am really excited about it and now need to learn to use it well.
I haven't had experience with a belt sander, but I like the idea of it being on it's side and occillating.
There is also a "lifetime warranty" by sending in the upc, receipt and form. I'm not sure just how good that warranty actually is, but something some of you who have an interest, may want to look into and consider.
Here's hoping it will work out as well as I think it will.
Dale
