In an effort to open up some floor space in my not-so-large shop, I was thinking about replacing the right side table extension of my table saw with a router table extension (instead of a dedicated router table with its own footprint). Does anyone out there use their router this way? Anyone else have any thoughts or experience with this set up?

I use to have a Ryobi table saw that had a place for a router, I never used it. My router didn't fit it.

Did you ever see Wood Works with David Marks on TV. He is a great craftsman in woodworking. He has a set up like that. He uses the table from his router along side of the table saw. Although I don't know why, because his shop is huge.

I have done what you are thinking. I had the same issue with floor space. After moving I now have probably twice the space. Still use the Router extension on the table saw. Really like it. If you have any questions about it send me a PM or post. Dean |

Dean, Did you make your own table or buy one? I was looking at an article in Woodsmith last nite that looked like a decent one. I'd just need to check to see how it would work with my TS fence. What kind of TS/fence to you have?

I have that setup on my Delta contractors saw. I also installed a table top router lift. I have a big Freud router mounted in it and only use it for my larger work. The rest of the time I prefer my standalone router table. Over the years I have decided that I do not like combination tools they tend to take too much fiddling to use. On my to do list is to build a new router table (on wheels) with the proper fence etc. and remove the Freud from my saw.

My powermatic saw came with the router table and router lift. I never use it. Thing is I have to set up the fence and dust collection to it anytime I want to use it then tear it all down or it's in the way of the saw fence. If I had no space and/or simply didn't have another dedicated router station, then I would use it.
