Default Excalibur Shaking

Hi,

I am new here and am happy to have found such a wealth of experience.

I have an older 24" Excalibur saw with a variable speed motor. It runs well and is a lovely machine. Lately however, when I turn up the speed high, it really seems to clatter and shake like crazy and then snaps the blade.

Does anyone have any idea what could cause the shaking? Are there bushings or bearings that need to be changed? Is there a counter weight adjustment that can be tuned? It does vibrate a bit when it is run slower but well within tolerable limits.

Thanks in advance,
Tom

My Excaliber is only a few months old. EX-21. It did shake when I first got it, but that was because it was mounted to a workbench. Now I have the stand for it. Smooth as silk. You might try getting in touch with Ray at SEYCO . He would be a good source to ask. He sells Excalibur's here in Texas. Good luck EXCALIBUR RULES !!!

And welcome to the form, some one here most likely will have an answer or know where to get an answer for just about anything scroll saw related.

I too have an EX-21 that is now 2.5 years old (a purple one). I have never had a shaking problem. I mounted it as follows. Using the 4 bolt holes I bolted a piece of 3/4 partical board as a base using 1/4 bolts. I countersunk the head of the bolt into the bottom of the base board. The nut is visible on top of the the foot of the saw. I then set the flat baseboard on a piece if 3/8 carpet underpad and then that rests on the table. The underpad is not glued nor is the base/saw assembly bolted to the table. It just sits there, does its job and never moves.

If mounting is not your problem then I cannot help you. I would not go at the mechanical arms/linkage and suggest you get manufacturer help.

Cheers
Bob
