Ok, the adoption is now complete and I am the proud owner of 3 new toys. Of course the fun part was "cleaning" (notice I didn't get too much done) the garage to make room for the new toys. I have given 2 of the 3 a test run and love the way they operate. The table saw is the most impressive to me. I had a small Sears brand and it did ok but not quite big enough. This new one is the right size. Along with cleaning the garage and some personal issues with family members, I haven't been doing too much in the shop but that is about to change and the lathe will be the first thing to get my attention. I have not done any turning since high school, so long ago, and I know I will have a learning curve ahead of me. Attachment 7100 Attachment 7101 Attachment 7102

Congratulations on your recently acquired new (to you) tools. That is a nice looking little mini lathe. Wait till you get turning out (pun intended) all kinds of wonderful items on the lathe . You will no doubt find out what most turners already have , that it will be the most addictive form of woodworking you have ever done . You will also like the fact that the majority of wood for turning is free for the asking and no patterns are required and that the items from your lathe will be widely accepted at sales and bring great prices . It is the most profitable form of woodworking I have ever done. I'm happy for you with getting those nice tools and we will be looking forward to pictures of your first turnings. W.Y. |

Congratulations Andy. where did you get the lathe? Penn State? Did you go for the kit or just buy the lathe?

Thanks all. I have been wanting these new ones for a while and the timing has worked out perfectly. I had to pay full price for the table saw at HD but I got deals on the other two. The band saw was the floor model that was on sale and then an extra 10% off because of it being a floor model (I didn't have to assemble it!!), I had twenty dollars in coupons and my in-laws had given me $100 in gift cards so the saw out of pocket was below $200. The lathe is new but has been "tested" by a tool testing company and I then bought it at auction for less than $75 including shipping. Mike, it is from Penn State but isn't the kit that they offer. For the price I couldn't complain. It has all necessary parts to do spindles or bowls and that is fine with me. Bill, I can't wait to get into turning again. I know it is a lot of fun. My sophomore year in HS, I built a rocking chair and turned all of the legs and arm supports. Rivari, I'll let you know on the bandsaw.

Tor, That is exactly what my wife said, "I guess you'll be in the house even less now." Thanks to a bonus at work, I was able to get the the table saw and the others were just lucky. The band saw is 14". I had a 9" but plan to start doing some boxes and needed the bigger saw. I sold the 9" to a guy at work for $50. I even have a new scroll saw that I bought last summer, a Hegner.
