Default What's Delta got.....?

I had to take my one year old Delta P-20 into the service center today, for what I thought would be repairs under warranty. The service guy did a little playing on the computer, and said my saw would be replaced rather than repaired. BUT..... he said the P-20 is no longer being made and I would get the "next gen/upgrade/new and improved/it's being replaced by..." saw. But he didn't know a name or model number for what Delta is replacing the P-20 with. Has anyone heard anything about what Delta is replacing the P-20 with? I should know in 10 to 14 days, but I'm starting to sweat the more I think about it...I sure hope the new model is as good or better than my P-20 !

I checked their website and they still have the P-20 listed on it. I hope you get something really neat!

Well, hope you get an even better saw. No idea what it could be, so it looks like you will need to let us know when you get it so we know whether to recommend it to people or not.

Default Delta Saws

A place where I purchased two delta's from, I went there thinking I would buy another delta from them. They know longer sell the delta scroll saw but sell DeWalt's. They still sell delta products but not there scroll saws.

Larry.
I am surprised that your service center knows something that the the main distributors of the saw knows nothing about. I phoned them about it as is shown here.

http://wmyoung.proboards107.com/inde...ay&thread=1819

They have to supply parts for at least 7 years by law and after that there are loads of places to get after market parts if any are ever required. Bearings , belts , blade hoders and many other parts can be purchased without having to go though the toaster/tea kettle company that unfortunately also distributes the DeWalt saws and many other products that used to be good ones. . At least the P-20 has good sized sealed bearings where they are required and they are easily replaced by most anyone if they ever need replacing but to this date I have never heard of any wearing out.
I think the main reason they discontinued the saw is because they simply last too long and they were not selling parts . It's all about money these days. Of course they will keep the makes and models that require frequent parts replacements or keep wearing out so they can sell whole saws .

I was in the Woodcraft store in Spokane , Washington last week and they have a new P-20 on the floor . Some lucky person should grab that one up while they are still available. Woodcraft has no knowledge of a replacement for the P-20 but they agreed with me that they hope they don't replace it with a VS model like the DeWalt that was sitting right beside it..

My only suggestion is if you can find a dealer or distributor that still has a few in stock, grab one while you can because it is an extremely user friendly saw and will be the last one you will ever need regardless of your age.
What a shame to see quality like the P-20 being weeded out to make room for more cheap replacements .

I'm curious if you know what law this is. I know there's a law on the books for Automotive companies, but I've never heard it applied to any other industry.
I suspect it has to do with simple math. Whether you like the Dewalt or not, they sell far more of them than the Deltas, so why carry a financial loser in your line. Can't say that I blame them. I've been around business long enough to have learned the old adage, "If you can't beat them, buy them." It allows the company to either adapt the superior product to thier line if profitable enough or dump it. I've been involved with this type of stuff in the past, what we did was price the replacement parts astronomically (it costs a small fortune to make a single part not to mention maintaining the tooling and such). So, even if they do offer replacement parts, I'm betting that they'll be cost prohibitive if the people running the business have any smarts at all.

Kevin.
I am not sure about the law on that sort of thing especially as pertaining to saws. I just heard about the seven year concept on another site and have no idea how reliable the source was. . Personally I thought it was ten years for manufacturers requiring to supply parts when discontinuing a product line but I have no documentation to back that up.
