Default Sander Question

If you could have only one type of sanding machine in your
shop, what would it be? I am asking because I am looking
to buy a sander but I am under some severe space restrictions
and I want to get the most versatile machine I can.

My primary interest is in Segmentation and Intarsia.
I already have a couple of sizes of inflatable drums that go
on the drill press and I want to get a machine that will
compliment these.

Thanks,

Mike G.

For small stuff, I wouldn't be without my Dremel with all it's sanding attachments. I also have the router attachment. Just cannot imagine doing much without it - and it is small!! I use sander attachments on my drill press, along with a flapwheel. I tend to use a sanding block for small flat stuff, along with a brilliant little sanding tool made by Sandvik, alas now unavailable

only one sander????????????????? I would say my performax drum sander! It isnt as much valued for intarsia as it is for fretwork, or regular woodworking, but I sure love that machine.Since you already have inflatable drums, maybe a disc sander to help square up edges that you oops on when cutting them? LOL, you know... an oops. Not an Oops as in a proper name, but an 'oops' like after youve had a great night out, and wake up with bad rash!!! You know what i mean! Your cuttin away and its all going good, then all the sudden its oops, I didnt mean to do that! The problem I see is that we all make an oops, but just not the same oops 99 times!!! Thats where it becomes scary! Dale
