Default Dewalt stand help

I am going to order the dewalt 788 saw. The trick is I have to work sitting down in a wheelchair. I need the saw's table height to be about the same height as your dinner table. Someone who owns the saw and stand, am I making a mistake getting the stand or should I just build my own outta wood? Also is the dewalt light worth getting or should I just rig up my own. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Scott

My saw table stands at 3 foot 4 inches from the floor on the stand. Think you may find this a bit high for you My light works good and it was included with the package.

Hope this helps. Pat

I don't recall exactly where the leg braces are located, but I wonder if you could cut a few inches off the DeWalt stand to make it the right height for you? The metal isn't all that thick. I imagine a good hacksaw and file would work.

That is a good thought--the brace on my stand is 10 inches from the floor.

I've measured my Dewalt stand, and you have enough room below the braces to cut the legs off so the saw table is at 27" the normal height of a dinning table, however, there is only 10" of leg room under the saw table before you hit the legs, is this enough room to get your wheelchair in and be close enough to your work to properly see it? I think you should scrap the stand and see if you could get a workbench custom made to fit your wheelchair. I think there are other scrollers on this forum who have the same issues, maybe one of them will come along with a suggestion.

Quite some time ago this question, or one very similar was asked, Im not sure if anything ever become of that.I dont think you would be able to get yourself close enough to the saw to comfortably sit in the chair and scroll. Sometime, if you get a chance, I would like to know what the height is of the arms on your chair, and the total width from the outside of the wheels on a common sized wheelchair. Also, helpful info for me would be the height you think the saw table would be most comfortable for you while sitting in your chair. I have a few ideas in my head on building some sort of W-chair friendly saw stand for the big yella saw. Dale

Well, Scott, I think you chose a good Saw, but, if you have the chance to build your table into your work bench, it would be to your advantage. You can make it the way you want it. As was already said, the stand is too tall & very narrow. The light that I have is built into my magnefier. I just bought one of the clamp on lights, but, I mounted it to the saw. I need the magnifier, because it brings your work right up close. Just keep asking when you need help, you can get plenty of help. Good luck Larry

Hawk has special legs for its saw table to accomodate wheel chairs. Take a look at the picture it might give you some ideas. Maybe you can modify the legs on the Dewalt stand.

Maybe this can help lucky788scroller
Just in case you are rusty on mm conversions
1350 mm = 53.1 inches
150 mm = 5.9
600 mm = 23.6
700 mm = 27.5
1200 mm = 47.2

I'm more than rusty ......I found the conversions at this site
