| HELLO EVERYONE!!! I JUST SIGNED UP FOR THIS FORUM TODAY AND HAVE A QUESTION. I HAVE THE 16" DELTA SCROLL SAW PURCHASED BRAND NEW 2 YEARS AGO. I USE THE FLAT END SPIRAL BLADES FOR CUTTING, TPI IS USUALLY 36 TO 41. THE PROBLEM THAT I AM HAVING IS THAT THE BLADES KEEP COMING OUT OF THE TOP BLADE HOLDER OR THEY BREAK OFF. THE BRAND IS FLYING DUTCHMAN. THE TENSION ON THE BLADE IS CORRECT PER MANUAL AND THE C NOTE PING FROM THE BLADE. I EVEN ROUGHED UP THE BLADE HOLDERS WITH 180 GRIT SANDPAPER BUT IT DID NOT HELP. DOES ANYONE KNOW OF SOMETHING ELSE TO TRY OR KNOW WHAT IS WRONG WITH MY SAW??? THANKS FOR YOUR INPUT

hi grumpy take no notice of tom , he doesn't mean it, i too have a delta and this only happened once. If you back off the tension a tad and try that, mine was over tight and pulled out, once adjusted its never happenend since, either that or it could be a duff set of blades, it happens.

The Delta chuck can be finicky from time to time. Roughing the Delta clamps with sand paper actually can make the problem worse as it is the clamping pressure not the friction that holds the blade in place. Changing the width between the clamp faces can over-extend the screw and lever mechanism causing a loose hold. If your blades are breaking, then the tension is too high regardless of the pitched "C". I can easily see any clamp on any saw wear out after two years (of course it depends on the hours put in on the machine). I would check with Delta first, but a replacement chuck is roughly $32. The fastest and cheapest place for Delta replacement parts is www.mikestools.com

Grumpy Bear . Go to Ricks Site at http://www.scrollsaws.com/ and watch videos on the proper way to use your blade holders . You have what I feel are the best blade holders on the market and as someone mentioned , you do not use sandpaper on those holders. That is just for screw type holders. Rick is a collector of scroll saws of every make and knows more about all the different makes and models than anyone I know of. W.Y. |

Hi Grumpy Bear, I also have the Delta 16" but an older model, and have the same problem with small spiral blades. I am OK with #3 and up, but anything smaller and they break continually. I have worked with the tension and made it very weak and it helped some, but I still have issues.

9 Years with a Delta 16" saw. No mechanical or blade problems. I assume you have the QuicksetII clamp on top. Make sure the screw to adjust the clamping pressure is not to loose. Blade tention definatly varies with blade size and brand. Blade breakage may be due to twisting the blade to much. Try not to force the blade off center. Practice, Practice, Practice. Dean |
