And he broke it! He hasn't touched it since I bought it for Christmas for him 2 years ago so I kinda took it over. And tonite he decides to give it a go, right in the middle of me madly trying to finish making Christmas presents. And to top it all off I can't find my owner's manual for it. Does anyone know how to fix a Craftsman 16" tension rod that comes off? I have never had a problem with the saw before and then he goes and "tries it out". The tension rod inside seems to be disconnected somehow and when I took the screws off the back from where it seemed to be located inside all I found was a bunch of electrical wires. So I'm stumped. Can anyone help me?

Thanks for the laugh Evie! Just what I needed! I haven't had a chance to look at it any further to figure it out, so I have been off to the stores to finish buying presents, not what I wanted to do, but this close to Christmas I have no choice. Maybe after Christmas I will go and buy myself a good saw, not that the craftsman isn't good but rather more umph for my money if that makes sense. Then he can have his saw back, broken.

Thanks for the link David, I don't know what happened, it works for me. Sherri, see if these specs can help you, this is from my old saw which is about 15years old, but maybe the parts are the same. oops99 http://i154.photobucket.com/albums/s...rollSaw001.jpg http://i154.photobucket.com/albums/s...nScrollSaw.jpg

Sherri, If you think this might be the same saw, pm me with your email address and I will send you the pics, so that you can look at them with greater detail. ![]() ![]() ![]() oops99

I have a craftsman 16" VS saw, which is about four years old IIRC. I think I can locate the manual to scan a few pages for you, if you would like. Tor

Thanks for your help on the manual everyone, but after much searching I found mine. It doesn't really help much though. The problem seems to be that the quick release assembly has come off and after lots of frustrating moments I have had to step away from the saw, either that or toss it! When I tried to take the screws off the side of the saw to get inside, they were so tight the screws got stripped! So I tried to get access by taking the bottom off. This doesn't really help as the top nubby thingy won't go into place because I can't see or get into that area. uhhhhh!!!! Any ideas how to get the stripped screws off so I can get to the nubby thingy? (sorry for my high tech explanation but the manual doesn't tell me what those nubby thingys are hehe)

doodle1 see if you can file a slot in the screw head and try using a screw driver in the newly made slot. Center the slot as best you can. Spray a little WD40 or similar, and let it set for a while before attempting to turn the screw.
