| I realize that you get what you pay for but what is a good type of band saw blade. I have a new Sears 10" that takes a 70 1/2" blade. I want to due some resawing and don't what what brand or style of blade to buy. This is the first band saw I've had and just don't know. Thanks for any help in advance. Richard aka thumbs

Richard (aka thumbs): Sorry, your post got lost in the shuffle. I thought for sure someone would reply way before I got to it. deleted paragraph: Just realized you were from Iowa, not Ohio. For some info on re-sawing: try this thread: Re-sawing tutorial My suggestion for your 70" blades is to try the Highland Hardware Wood Slicer brand of blades (1/2" wide only.) http://www.highlandwoodworking.com/i...OD&ProdID=6076 Note you are going to pay extra for your a blade for your size saw, over a normal 14-inch bandsaw. There are other places that sell re-saw blades, but you will need to find places that sell for your sized saw. The problem you are going to run into is the width of the boards that will fit your saw for resawing. There is a rule-of-thumb for bandsaw, minimum of three teeth to a maximum of 5 teeth in the wood kerf. Most re-saw blades are made for 6 to 10 inch wide boards. If all you can fit in your saw is 4 inches across, then a 3 TPI blade may be too course. Also, you saw may be underpowered for re-saw work. I don't know your saw, so take with a grain of salt. Search Woodcraft for blades also. Go for the custom sized 1/2 inch wide, 4 TPI, hook tooth. I don't know if timberwolf makes a blade for your saw. http://www.woodcraft.com/family.aspx?FamilyID=835 Please don't go with Sears bandsaw blades. The results are so mixed; one day good blades, the next just junk, but same brand label. I hope this helps Phil PS: No joke, the result of a resaw on a bandsaw is not ready for finishing. The wood face inside the cutting kerf will be rough. Most do use a thickness planner or a belt sander to clean up the wood surface. How much clean up depends on the running of your saw, and the correction you take to the blade drift. Last edited by GrayBeard Phil; 11-18-2007 at 12:59 PM. |
