Default How not to buy a band saw blade

First off I must admit I hadn't taken the tension off my band saw blade in a looooooong time. Just too much hassle.
Yesterday I was resawing 10" thick Black Walnut when I heard the thump thump of the blade "going bad". Bang! the blade broke.......rats. No problem get the other one off the hook and replace it. Well I guess I forgot I already used "the other one"......double rats.
Get in the truck drive 43 miles to Woodcraft to buy another blade, find the blade put it in cart, see a blade I've wanted to try, put that one in the cart (both Timber Wolf), notice they have a quick tension release unit to fit my saw, throw that in the cart, AH they have the brazing jig for band saw blades I've wanted....in the cart it goes, now I won't have to make this trip as often, finally get to check out..they have the "pebble floor mats" on sale for 1/2 price.... in the cart.
So for my laziness not releasing the tension instead of paying $28.99 + tax for one blade it ends up at $289.33.....I got to get out in the shop to try to make this up before the wife..........well you get the idea. LOL
Dave
P.S. I should have bought the quick tension release years ago......what a great piece of equipment.
P.S.S. I saved $16.51 on the mat!

G'day Dave,
That was a good piece of "Retail Therapy"
I had to have a little giggle. pictured the Missus busting you and the reply "but......but... I saved $16.51" LOL.
That's usually their excuse. The amount of times my wife has come home from the shops and the first words out of her mouth are "Guess how much I saved"

Online shopping is the devil for me. I will need a certain item so on the net I go, add it to the trolley, but do I stop there ! nope just a quick look to see what else is available, the problem is it's not a look it's a , chuck that in the trolley and that, that's only a few bob, in it goes - anyhow you get the picture

Oddly enough I just did the same thing but at the clothing store. I am fanatically against clothes shopping (unlike my wife) and I HAD to go buy a new pair of slacks, $375, a shirt, tie, jacket and 2 pairs of slacks later I left the store. The price of looking good for work.....that was money better spent in the hardware store.

I have read somewhere that the tention should be released if U are not planning on using the saw for a while. I have a bench top band saw, have never released the tention, until I read that article. I like the quick release thing. Wow $30 to $290. Do U have a sleeping room somewhere else on your property. Did U have some extra cash hidden. I purchased a 5 piece cordless drill set, $225 thought I was in the clear. Wife found the slip in my wallet, confronted me as I was using the tool, not knowing she found the reciept I lied a bit. NOT A GOOD IDEA. Reciept was pinned on the bulletin board for a long time as a reminder.

The tension around here was pretty strong for a few days I'm still releasing it in the shop. LOL
No, just have to hide in the shop for a while. LOL
No, just have to put a lot more hours in the shop. LOL
She wanted me to put the receipt where the sun doesn't shine, but .........I'm still hiding in the shop. LOL
So I guess it wasn't a bad deal after all, I get to spend A LOT of time in the shop......LOL
All kidding aside......I have a very understanding wife. She knows how this wood working addiction takes control of me.
