G'day all, Just wondering what brand of band saw blades you all use, if you have a Band saw. I like the Olson Scroll saw blades, especially for heavier work and was wondering if their Band saw blades were the same quality. (I use FD blades for finer work) They seem awful cheap But than again of lot stuff from the US is a lot lower prices than in Oz, even when postage is added on. Thanks heaps, I'm looking forward to you reply s.

You et what you pay for in band saw blades. I have a few Olsen blades, and although they work better then the generic blades, they are no where near as good as the Timberwolf blades, by suffolkmachinery. com . It all depends on your needs on which particular blade you want. For resawing I am thinking about buying one of the carbide bandsaw blades, but again...pricy. Dale

Yes by all means I agree with Dale . Either Timberwolf of TuffTooth which are the identical blades made under the same roof by the same manufacturer but the Timberwolf are more popular in USA and the TuffTooth are more popular in Canada. It might be best to compare prices and shipping charges on the two brand names for delivery to where you live . Here is the address for TuffTooth and maybe Dale will supply it for Timberwolf. http://www.tufftooth.com/index-bandsaw.html I have been using the Industrial Silicon TuffTooth ones for years but there are a few newer additions to the line that I might try on my next order. Last time I ordered they had a 10% discount on three or more blades . W.Y. |

JohnB: I am sorry, but I just cannot believe that where you live down under that you don't have access to very fine bandsaw blades. Blades which may not even be sold in USA. You are close to Taiwan, and SE Asia. Mainstream woodworkers all thru you part of the world must be using some sort of bandsaw blades. If for no other reason than the trees are reported to be so much harder lumber than in North America (Teak, et all.) Anyway, what does the Australian Woodworker's forum have to say on the subject of band saw blades? (http://www.woodworkforums.com/index.php ) Scroll saw blades are another story. Thanks for the info, I was unaware that that forum existed. You can get bloody good Bandsaw blades here, but the easy to come by ones are for bigger machines than 14". There are a number of companies that will make them to any size, but once again they are awfully expensive. The other problem is the actual range of types, this is very limited. I purchased 2 extra when I bought the machine at about $24.00 each, but can't help feeling that there are better quality ones available some where.

JohnB: {Phil shaking head is disbelief...} That suprises me that me!!! From what I have seen on other boards, there are some amazingly talented woodworkers down under. Real artist types. Bent wood, exotic woods, and lamination of woods in mainstream funiture making. And you and others are having problems finding band saw blade that fit? I mean Air Freight from Highland Hardware in Georgia,USA to Oz must be expensive. Phil |

Contact: http://www.timberwolf1.com/. If they can get the blade in a priority flat rate envelop it cost $ 11.00 postage. UPS would be alot more. You could also contact: Harris, Owen/Helen ochjh@netconnect.com.au or Schultz, Neil schulznj@picknowl.com.au. I believe Neil is involved or is president of the Australian scroll saw club. I am sure they are glad to help you. Mike

grizzly is now selling an assortment of timberwolf bandsaw blades, they also offer a carbide tipped blade. i'm not a big fan of grizzly, but these blades do handle resawing of ipe, and other hardwoods pretty well. i'm very satisfied with the longevity of these blades. on the other hand one of their bandsaws cost me 500.00 plus dollars more in options and additional machining to get the thing to keep a blade on the wheel. i use and love the timberwolf 1/8 and 1/4 inch blades for fine cutting, teamed up with a precision bandsaw, you can get scroll saw like results. doug
