Cool Hegner 22V Vibration

I recently purchased a 1993 Hegner 22V. I have heard so much about the vibration free operation of a Hegner...However, my saw vibrates significantly at speeds higher than 1300 rpm. At higher speeds the saw becomes difficult to use.

Is this normal or is there anything I can do to calm the vibration?

Where have you positioned your saw? Anything will vibrate if the table/bench/whatever under it is free standing? My Hegner is bolted to the bench (which is made from a frame on the wall) with rubber between each corner and the surface of the bench. It does not vibrate at all and makes hardly a sound.

Thanks Sue...I am using the hegner tall stand. However, based on the tips found in other areas of this site, I tried removing the saw and placing on concrete floor and the saw still vibrates so much at high speed that it moves around the floor like a football player from the olde vibrating electric football games.

I definitely expect some vibration, but this ones just seems excessive. I was hoping maybe there was something I could replace or repair that would solve it, but I have inspected the saw all around and cannot find anything that might be directly responsible. I just cannot believe that the level of vibration I am experiencing is normal.

I also tried hanging a bucket filled with heavy parts to the bottom of the stand which helped some. Now at least it doesn't tickle my nose while I am standing in the shop. But...set anything on the table while at high speed and it will still vibrate to a bounce.

I have never had a Hegner apart so I am just guessing here. That is not typical of a Heger so I would suspect if it has a counter weight or somthing like that in the drive mechanism, it may be loose or out of place.
If you bought the saw used make sure the prior owner didn't change someyhong to throw the saw out of balance. Take pictures of the saw and send it to to the dealer maybe they can help.

Apologies if this sounds stupid, but is the saw bolted tightly to the stand? If it's loose, this will cause vibration. Could the floor it's standing on be a consideration also? Is it a wooden floor?

I only have a single speed Hegner, but there's no way it should be vibrating that much. In fact you shouldn't experience noticable vibration at all unless it's not secured firmly.

If it is vibrating so much that things bounce, then that is not normal. I'm sure it's to do with the saw not being secured properly rather than the saw being faulty.

Thank you Rolf & I-Saw,

Rolf you have directed my thoughts regarding some sort of counter balance that should be attached to or inserted into the "fly wheel" or "eccentric" as it is called by Hegner. There is an approximately 1/4" diameter hole in the side of the "flywheel". I am curious as to why there is nothing in it. Although, I did look on the exploded parts diagram on the Advanced Machinery website and I do not see anything that would come as a separate part that would have fallen off or that could have been taken off. The newer models are some different...but the guts seem the same.

I-Saw...I have checked the tightness of the saw to the stand. In-fact, I have removed the saw a few times experimenting with different support methods. I am on a wooden floor, but as seen in my earlier post, the saw still vibrates around the floor even when setting directly on concrete.

I have to believe that there is something missing. The saw blade functions very well. Straight up and down and without side to side movement (when installed in the blade holders properly, that is.) At slower speeds I am cutting grandly. Still some vibrtation, but tolerable. If this is never resolved, I will still enjoy the saw...just below 1300 rpms. BUT...I am not like that...I won't rest until I have exhausted every avenue to determine that 1) the vibration is normal, or 2) the machine is fixed.

Thank you again for your input.

I took especial notice when I was cutting last night. My saw hardly vibrates at all, in fact it is so quiet I can listen to the radio whilst operating the saw. The only noise I get is when I don't hold the piece I'm working on down - it then rattles a bit, but so would any saw. Have you tried contacting Hegner services department?

Good Luck

Sue

I think something's missing. My hegner never makes a noise unless it is from "operator error", warped wood or something. I have the 3 legged stand and it hasn't moved 1/16 of an inch from when I put it there 6 years ago! If you call Hegner, they are fantastic people to deal with and should be able to tell you what's wrong and if something is missing, you will have it pronto!

Good luck

Betty

Hello

I have 2 hegners and have no trouble one thing you might make sure of how well is your stand mouted to the floor if you just have it sitting free you will have some movement at high speeds . Make sure it is mouted well to the floor

Thank you all...I tried something different last night. I clamped the saw to my table saw and that controlled the vibration much better. I will call Hegner though and see what their take is.

On another note...I noticed last night that the blade slot in the bottom arm is not plumb or vertical with the world. Doesn't seem right, but after removiing the arm and inspecting it, there seems to be no signs of damage. Can this be a factory defect that has gone unnoticed? I suppose that this could also be part of my vibration issue.

What do ya'll think?
