Default P-20 Owners....

How long should I expect the belt to last before it snaps? I've put about 12-18 hours on the saw, and last night it popped! A #10 vacuum cleaner belt is a nice substitute, but you only get one speed.

Delta had one bad production run on the belts that they got from their supplier and so many broke that they were on back-order for a while while they were waiting for new stock from another supplier. I have heard that they are now available .
My P-20 is about 5 years old now with several thousand hours of use with the original belt. I clean the belt about once a year and it still looks like new. Perhaps I should order a spare belt just in case. So far all the saw has cost me was one of the little oil cups for the rocker arms that worked its way out and got accidentally thrown out when cleaning the shop floor. I ordered a new one from an authorized Delta part/service depot and had it here in ten days . This time I put a spot of medium locktite on the threads so it won't happen again.

Brian, my P-20 will be 4 years old in Jan. and still on original belt. Was making a wierd noise a couple years ago. I found there was a tiny knob on the belt that was hitting on the bottom. I just sanded the knob off and the noise disappeared.

Default P 20

Have had mine for four years and still have same belt However I have a extra one in the drawer if needed. Have used other parts such as the slide for the tension several of those. Great saw though I use it every day so lots of saw dust has come from it LOL Jerry

Then I definitely got a defective belt. I didn't think 15 hours was enough to break a new belt on any machine. I guess I got a little panicky and ordered three new belts.

That aughta hold you for at least another twenty years or so.

Hope the new replacements last a LONG time like most of us have experienced with our original ones. .

Hey Brian,

The belt on my P-20 broke about a month ago after having it for only a year with under 500 hrs. I did like you and ordered two. Then I called Delta and they sent me a replacement for free. I received it just two days after I called them.

Hope your new belts last longer.

Update.... I receieved my replacement(s) today and see why the belt broke. They must have used a different material in the bad run because the new ones are way more rubbery. The one that broke almost had the feel of polycarbonate or extremely thick weed eater line.

You should get a spare belt. According to the parts website, the P-20 is discontinued.
