I finally realize I need a sanding mop. Kingspor sells several but I'm not sure what to buy. Any suggestions?

Mike, Sharon had a great thread on making her own sanding mops. I wish I knew how to get there from here, but there was lots of impho on the sanding mop thing. maybe someone could help you get there. Dale maybe, your friend Evie

Hi Mike, the sanding mop I use is from Stockroom supply here in Canada. Their website is stockroomsupplies.com. Sorry I don't have a link. They sell this one pictured here. Picture 165.jpg They can be a great tool to use, but in the hands of the wrong person they can be dangerous, flying wood, if ya get my meaning. I have broke many a project trying to sand on this thing. Hubby tells me it's all in the way I hold the project, I tell him maybe he should hold the project! Just my 2¢ worth Marsha

I think this is what Evie was refering to Making a sanding mop--- . Try that out. rjr studios sells sanding mops, as does klingspor. Whichever is cheaper is fine, I think they are the same sanding mops. Dale

For the homemade one, Kingspor sells one for under $10 so I think I'll just buy one ready made. Thanks all for replying. I know this is not a very intesting topic.

Mike, I made my own ONCE. It was not worth my time to cut all of the paper and the slits. It is much easier just to buy the precut refils from Klingspore. I have one with 220 and one with 120. I use them all the time.

Mike, I have been using one from Stockroom supply. What are you going to be using it on? If it is a drill press, get the 6" one. If you are goin to use it on a high speed motor, you can get away with the 4". Both have the same mandrel. The lower grits will not last as long as the higher grits if you are using for shaping. Simply because you use them for longer peiods of time. Also you migh want to consider rubber finger protectors. Before I gave in, my nails were sanded down mighty fine.

I made my own with a refill kit from Klingspor, hose washers, and a bolt. I found that it didn't work too well as you really need a left handed thread. I bought the mandrel from Klingspor and now am happy as a clam. NOTE: hang on to what ever you are sanding. If you get a little too deep into the mop you will launch that sucker like a rocket. I decided that next time I use it I will put a "catching box" next to the drill press. Earl |
