While perusing Ebay I came across a reconditioned Delta SS350R for $149 with free shipping. I don't know how much you can get this saw anywhere else right now, much less how much shipping will cost. I don't know anything about the company selling it either. But this sounds like a pretty good deal that I thought I would share with you all. Just thought I would share something I found.

Jim, I noticed that offer did not include the stand. The SS350SL includes a stand. Shipping charges will depend on where you ship from and your final destination. I recently purchased a NEW not reconditioned SS350SL. The package was about 61 pounds. I also purchased this from an eBay listing. I got it for under $100 but then the shipping was around $60, as I recall, from FedEx ground which also includes the stand. I believe the warranty for a reconditioned saw from Delta is 6 months. Warranty for a new saw is 2 years. You might check to see if you can get the reconditioned saw covered with SquareTrade once the 6 months is up. All of this might not be a problem for you. I shopped around locally and found the same NEW saw for $238-$276. Since then, I have noticed it is no longer being carried by the big chain stores. It appears it is being replaced by the Wilton brand at one of them. It looks to me like the Wilton brand may have captured the bid for supplying Scroll Saws for the chain store. But, I could be wrong. I have not used my new saw enough yet to formulate a lot of strong opinions one way or the other. I like the looks of it and it matches the SA180 1" x 42" belt sander I have right next to it. My saw seems to run quiet and smooth. I am not too impressed with the amount of air flowing to keep the cutting area clear of dust. The saw dust collecting container is catching a lot of the saw dust though. The container comes off very easy. It has a cap on the left side to connect your shop vacuum. But, I have not found and easy connection that adapts the hose to the opening. I took the hose and the container to the chain store. Between the sales associate and myself, we managed to come up with a modification we think will work. I have not made the connection yet. That could make a lot of difference in dust collection. I am not real impressed with how difficult it seems to be to lubricate the saw. I am working on that as well. I'm making sketches on my ideas but I'm not happy with any of them yet. My eyesight is not as good as it used to me. There are black plastic caps that cover the access holes where it is very dark. Another minor observation was the table of the saw. It was not as smooth as I had expected. I plan to work on smoothing and polishing it with some wet/dry sanding followed by some polishing. I have purchased an inexpensive aquarium air pump from Wal-Mart for less than $11. I plan to connect it to the air line on the saw to see if that will cure the air flow. It is all a matter of opinion as to what is enough air. Too much air might put a lot of it in the air rather than collecting it the saw dust box. I have found several postings in different places on the Web and all seem to come to the same conclusion. And, the air pump was the best recommendation that I have found. My wife is often saying that I can’t leave any tool alone after I buy it. I always have to make changes to make it "mine". She is probably right. I'm also waxing everything to keep the collection to a minimum and to keep it from rusting. Rusting...let's hope I don't let it stand still long enough for that to happen! I hope this helps a little. I am a Newbie to scrolling as well. I plan to make that correction soon. I have really enjoyed the scrolling so far. Larry |

I guess I wasn't very clear with my original post. I was posting the auction for those that are looking to upgrade from the el-cheap-o starter types of saws they may have to something that may be better. I know there are a lot of people getting started in scrolling whose first saw is one that takes only pinned blades and price is a big influence on which saw to buy. I heard a lot of good things about the Delta SS350 saws (other than the blower) and thought I would share a source for an inexpensive but decent saw. Sorry if I misled anybody into thinking I was getting one of these. I already own a Dremel 1680 and a Delta 40-570. If I were to get another saw my wife would throw a fit, then throw me!

Rockler is currently offering the Delta SS350LS with stand for $189. That is as of today. This saw seems to be a price that I can afford. Can I get comments on blade changing and tensioning? My buddy that manages a Woodcraft store wants to sell me the yellow peril for $489. That includes the light and the stand. Plus DeWalt is offering $50 off if you bring them your old saw. That is STILL $500 any way you slice it or dice it and that I think it out of my price range. Doug |

Sears sells the Dewalt for $449.99, less stand and light Harbor frieght has stands in the $25.00 to $29.00 range and a clamp on magnifying lamp for another $29.00. Yes, it's a little over $500.00, but in my opinion, well worth the money, and still saves over the cost of saw, stand and light combined.

I started with a cheaper saw because that was my budget. I outgrew that very fast and although it was not in my budget I did get a DeWalt 788. It was a pay in a year deal. It was $440 plus tax ended up being $501. It did include the light and stand and I've never been happier. Take the plunge, you won't regret it. Diane
