I am considering buying a new Excalibur EX-21 and I only found two places to purchase one, Seyco and Roberts Studio. Numerous people on this site have commented on Seyco, but I haven't heard of anybody that actually purchased a saw from Roberts Studio. If anybody has had any experiences, good or bad, when purchasing a saw from Roberts Studio, I would love to hear about it. I puchased an intarsia pattern from them, and it arrived quickly and had excellent packaging, but that is quite different from after-the-purchase scroll saw support, and I don't expect to get much of that from General International, the manufacturer of the saw. Thanks, Alan

I would imagin that support from any distributer would be limited. If I bought a tool from Amazon.com I would not expect support from them unless they sent me a damaged or broken item, other than that I would have to go to the manufacturer. Just my opinion!

Rolf, I agree with you. If I buy something from Amazon.com or Home Depot, I expect nothing from them post-sale other than possibly accepting a return. It is not the responsibility of a retailer to resolve a customer's post-sales problems, although some smaller ones are more willing to help out in that area. When I read about people with their Hawks contacting the manufacturer, speaking to somebody knowlegable about the tool, getting very personalized support and having replacement parts shipped out right away, no questions asked, I am envious. I believe that the designer and previous manufacturer of the Excalibur EX-21, Sommerville, was like that. Based on my past experiences with Jet, Delta and Dewalt, I don't expect that sort of support from the current mega-manufacturer of the Excalibur, General International (although I could be wrong about that). They also have among the shortest warrantees in the business (2 years). I guess you just need to buy the product that best fits your needs and budget and trust that any problems that do arise with the tool are resolved rapidly. -Alan

Alan, I saw a excalibur ex 21 at our local Woodcraft store the other day and it was priced at $699. You might check them out before your purchase.
