I have read several posts where scrollers have had good luck with the DW788 saw. One of the things mentioned is that they have "gone through one or two machines". My question is what is it that wears out on a DW788 that can not be economically fixed? Is it bearings, motor, blade holders, or what that is worn out. If these items are wearing out on the DW788, could it be that the same items will wear out just the same with the Excalibur? Thanks for any feedback you could provide!! John |

Anything can wear out or be manufacturally defective, regardless of what brand it is. I havent had any issues with mine yet after quite a few years of use. Dale

Yep what Dale said is true. moving parts do wear out. no matter what machine you have. some folks here, realy put them to lots of use. lots and lots of cutting. I have used mine for about 5 years now. and still going good. but I don't make things to sell. only for me. and family, and friends. if you are selling things. and sawing all day and night. you can bet. no matter what saw you buy. it will have wear a tear. but, get a good one. and the manufactor. warrenty, or cheapness of the saw. will determon, your frustration. just buy a thourbred, and work it like a mule. Hey Foneman: Litlhof here, in Sevier County, Tennessee. I am one of those who has gone through several DW788 DeWalt scroll saws. None of my parts ever wore out, and I am now completely satisfied with my saw. The first two saws I got, however, had manufacturing defects( blade hole did not line up with blade). Our local Woodcraft store here in Knoxville has the DW788 on sale right now for less than $500.00 including stand and light. Although i live in the Smoky Mountain area, I am a wandering Marylander. I graduated from BCC in Montgomery County and went to WMC up in Westminster for a vouple of years. My family is from Kent County and my wife is from St. Mary's County. It just goes to show you that not all of us hicks are still living up there. Best regards, Walt Rollison.
