... I got a sale flyer in the mail from Woodcraft yesterday. I haven't been keeping up on saw prices, but they're advertising a DeWALT saw for $489.99 (including a free light and stand), and if you 'trade in' ANY other scrollsaw (they didn't even specify that it runs

Does anybody know if Woodcraft checks out the saws before delivery to the customer or do they hand the customer a factory-sealed box? I am considering the Dewalt 788 and Excalibur EX-21. Other than the tilt mechanism, they are of very similar design. I received the following email from Seyco, Alan; We do have machines in stock. We set-up each machine and test, adjust and align it before delivery, so we would need a little time to be sure we have one ready for you to pick up or to ship. Thanks, Ray Seymore Seyco, The Scroll Saw Specialists, INC. <ray@seyco.com> 800-462-3353 If the Dewalt were similarly checked out prior to delivery to the customer, that would eliminate many of the headaches that I have read about with this saw. Obviously, Amazon.com isn't going to do this, but a reputable tool supplier certainly could. I would consider purchasing the Dewalt and saving $400 for some other expense (such as food, rent, or more tools ) if were confident that the saw was ready-to-go upon arrival. -Alan Quote:

| I forgot to mention that Ray Seymore from Seyco was referring to the Excalibur EX-21 saw. -Alan Quote:

Rocketman: Do you not have a Woodcraft store in your area where you could go and check out the DeWalt for yourself? Woodcraft will certainly stand behind anything they sell. I was just wondering. Walt Rollison in Seymour, TN.

Woodcraft is very good about taking things back if you have a problem with them. You could also go to the store and try it out before you bring it home. My light for my DeWalt was very flaky and Woodcraft simply exchanged it and sent the defective one back to DeWalt. ..and yes...that is an excellent price for the dewalt. Generally I think it's about $499 by itself with no stand and no light. |

There is a Woodcraft Store about 45 minutes from my home (Towson, MD). I guess I will go there one day soon to check out the saw. There is also a Woodcraft "The Woodworkers Club" about 30 minutes from my job, but they only have a limited selection of tools. -Alan
