Question hawk 226VS ?

I thought I had found a Hawk G4 for sale but another phone conversation with the gentleman today proves it to be a 226VS
I am able to find text references to this model but no pictures. All the RBI site shows is a 220VS
Can anyone give me any info here ?
It is still in a sealed box ( he says ) and he wants $500

Thanx in advance

Default Hawk 226vs

Here is a picture of my spare 226. In the background you can see my G4. I think that the 226 in the box for $500 is a very good deal. I don't know if I would sell mine for that!

Buzz,

Since you have both a G4 and a 226, could you tell me which one you prefer and why? Does the G4 have less vibration like Hawk is claiming? I have never seen a G4 but I did use a 226 at a show once and it seemed like a very nice saw.

Default G4 v 226

As far as vibration goes, there doesn't seem to be much difference between the 2 saws. Both are very good in the vibration department. The biggest reason I upgraded to the G4 is the top feed option. I found it very easy to get used to clamping the blade in the lower blade holder by feel. Also, it takes very little screw pressure to hold the blades in the holders. If I ever do sell my 226 I may buy another top feed brand just to compare the saws.

Last year I paid $600 for a like-new 226VS that came with a ton of accessories and books, so probably an equivalent deal. It is exactly like Buzz's except that it has the new-style dust blower , so yours will, too.

Mine has some vibration at high speeds, but TBH I don't use that range so it doesn't matter, and I've done nothing to eliminate it. I could add a shelf with ballast, or stand the saw on patio blocks, for example. Mine stands on a very solid wood floor over concrete.

I understand that the G4 has better blade clamps, but in my case ignorance is bliss as they work OK for me. Feeding is from the bottom only, which I don't think is so bad as the arm flips up a bit for clearance. Blade tensioning is the same as the G4, i.e., very simple.

Really a quality tool, I'd say worth every penny.
