My Dewalt just started to make a knocking noise when I am cutting. I set the tension, start sawing, Knocking noise. At the same time the tension starts backing off. Can anyone help? |

I get the knocking and tension when the blade is loose and slipping. Try roughing up the end of both thumbscrews with some sandpaper. If I have everything right, my tension stays between the 3 and 4.

the hex bolt under the cover that holds the tension adjuster may have worked its way loose try taking the cover off you will need a small torx bit to remove the cover and a hex wrench to try tightning the adjuster HTH

Same thing happened to me back in July. Before taking any parts off your saw, please unplug it. Then remove the tension cover, unscrew the large bolt, remove the tension lever to get to the aluminum cover. Check the threads in the cover, chances are the threads are stripped and there is particles of aluminum floating around in there. The hole is probably elongated from the movement of the bolt. The way to fix it is to take the cover and the bolt to a machine shop or auto repair shop and have someone put a Helicoil in the cover for you. It's real important to take the bolt with you, they match the Helicoil to the bolt. Problem fixed and you probably won't ever have the problem again. If you search back through posts started by me you'll find one "Dewalt Woes". It's all there even some pictures of the parts. If I knew how to link to a previous post I would, but I don't, so I can't. Good luck with getting it fixed Marsha Last edited by Marsha; 09-06-2007 at 05:38 PM. | |
