Default Spindle Sander

Hi been a while since I've posted, summer's over and time to start making puzzles again. I'm looking to purchase in the near future either the Delta or the Jet spindler sander. I looked several months ago at the local woodworking store and am lead to believe the Jet being the better of the two due to the internal being metal gears instead of the plastic in the Delta as well as the Jet having a tilting table if I ever plan on doing intarsa down the road which someday I hope too. Do any of the posters have either of these sanders and which do you prefer over the other and why ? Thanks for your help

I have a cheap ryobi, with a non tilting mdf top. Its noisy but works for me. If I were to get a more decent one, a true spindle sander (I consider mine a hobby sander, not something that would take tons of hours of use), I would definatly choose the Jet over the Delta. Dale

I second Dale's choice. I am waiting for my cheapy to go and then it will be the Jet. I've already did research on it so am prepared when the need arises.

Jet also has the 1/4 spindle which I find I use the most for intarsia's. The others only go to 1/2".

Default Delta

I have the Delta spindle sander and I don't know what I would do without it!
it goes from a 1/2 inch sanding sleeve to 3 inches....
I've had it for 2 years now and it's been used on every project I have done..
it's well worth the $185.....

Thanks to input from Jeff when this subject was discussed once before, I bought the Jet. I am glad I did, it is well made and the 1/4 inch spindle has been very useful.

That's the biggest selling point to me. They all work, some a bit better than others, but only one has the tiny detail spindle and that is the jet.

I just bought my Jet spindle sander last week and I already love it!!! I have only done one project where I needed it so far, but found the tilting table and the 1/4 inch spindle both valuable. Before buying it, I did quite a bit of research and it came down to either the Delta or the Jet. Even though it was more money, I chose the Jet because of the tilting table and the quality construction.
