Default Drill bits

I only have 1/16 drill bits and realize that it is much too big. I will buy some but could you tell me which number I would be using the most. I am cutting right now with a FD #3 and I also have some FD-NS #2 spirals which I eventually would like to get used to.

Diane,
Go to my web site and click on "Blades For Sale". The number drill bit to use is at the end of each blade.
Mike.

Dragon, I have some 1/32 bits that I use when the occasion calls for it. They're pretty small but will do the job. David

Diane I stock up on the 1/16 and #58-71. Check Mike's (FD) site he has the bit listed for the blade being used.

Actually, any reputable place that sells blades will also sell the bits and list the bit size that coincides with the blade in question.

Good advice on the small bits, but just want to add another tip. These small drills are quite fragile, so they really work best in a fixed drill press rather than a portable drill, plus since the placement of these holes is generally pretty critical, you want to be sure that you are drilling the holes perpendicular to the material. I don't know what you are using for drilling, but not all drill press chucks will hold the very small numbered sizes. You can generally buy mini chucks from the same place you get your bits or if you have a Dremel tool, you can get the plunge router base for it and use it for the small drills.

HTH, good luck!

I have a press drill so that is not a problem because that is what I use to make my holes. It's just that I am making a horse portrait right now and all of the holes are too big.

Just went to Mike's site and found all the sizes. Will have to try and find out if my chuck will take the small ones before ordering anything.

Diane,
If your drill press does not close to Zero, you need a mini chuck to hold the small drill bits.
