Default Happy Anniversary present!!

Well, it's not your normal Anniversary gift, but then I've been told I'm a little abnormal!! We celebrated 12 wonderful years of wedded bliss yesterday and my other half handed me a gift bag. I took out the blue (workshop paper toweling) tissue paper and what was inside.... a band saw blade!! It didn't take me any time to figure out I had gotten a new band saw for my anniversary!!!

It's a Jet 14 inch. I have had a band saw on my wish list for some time. I want to be able to resaw some of the thicker wood I have. I really waste a lot of wood by planing it down so much!!! Can anyone recommend a good book or website that explains the "finer points" of resawing wood?? This is all new to me!!

I thought the twelfth anniversary was linen (or sometimes silk) and pearl was the associated gem stone. For you, it's serrated steel associated with Jet .

Many congratulations!

Congratulations, Cathy! That's a nice gift, except it's too clean! Where's the sawdust?

Congrats Cathy. consider buying yourself the riser block kit for that saw before you invest much money in blades. You will like the extra depth since your plans include resawing. Also, get a good quality blade like those sold by www.suffolkmachinery.com for resawing. Go with a 1/2 inch by 3 tpi blade for that. I will see if I can dig up a few helpful links for you as well. If you dont get a riser kit for the saw, and I fine them, I might have a couple 95 inch blades around here from before I got the riser kit. Congrats on both your tools, the jet and the man who spoils you!!! Dale

Happy Anniversary. That is a tool I would like to have in my shop, provided it is good at resawing. Can't have too many species of veneer around, as I'm sure Gill would agree.

Congratulations on your new tool.
