Default Something new...

can you find what's new in the shop?
I'll give you a hint.....it's the only thing that isn't covered in saw dust

if you guessed the big orange thing in the middle of the room, your right!

Mrs.Trout went out and bought me this Ridgid 2 speed job site air filtration unit as an early fathers day present. She's been hitting me pretty hard lately on the dust from the last couple of projects. I guess she has been asking the scientists at work on what would be the best way to remove dust from the air...

All I have to do now is figure out where to put it....

Wow, that was really nice! I could sure use something like that. Hopefully it takes care of your dust problem.

Trout is that made to sit on a bench or is it wall/ceiling mounted?

My Delta ceiling mounted system doesn't keep up with the dust like I wish it would...make sure you post a review on how that Rigid system works once you get to testing it, thanks.

BTW, I heard Rigid orange is Jeff's favorite color, I'm surprised he hasn't posted something by now.

Default I'll be hanging it from the ceiling in the center of the room

it's nice and quite and dose draw in the air nicely....
but it really isn't the answer to eliminateing all the saw dust, just the smaller partials that float around in the air and the heavier stuff still drops to the floor...

I need to be a little better at running the shop vac when using the sanders...

but as far as Mrs.Trout is concerned, that baby sucks up all the dust...
I need to keep her happy so she'll keep bringing me stuff home

Mrs.Trout will be happy for sure. I got a General air filter off craigslist a couple months ago, and she has already mentioned numerous times that there seems to be a lot less dust upstairs now since I started using it. I am amazed at how fast I can fill up the outer filter on it, and to think, prior to that, my lungs filtered most of that out of the air. If you can hang it, thats what I would do from a couple hooks. Dale

Default belive it or not...

she wanted to get the Dewalt one but HD doesn't carry them in stock so she got the Ridgid...
it came with 4 hooks and 2 straps to hang from the ceiling....

I have to say, I'm a pretty luck guy to have Mrs.Trout...

Your shop looks great...getting more tools in their all the time. Not to knock the ridgid with it's beautiful orange color, but it doesn't filter any particles of dust that you're nose won't catch first. My Jet, which is alot bigger than your ridgid is the same way. It's unfortunate for all of us really, but the only air filtrations systems worth buying are close to 1000.00. Some of the slightly cheaper ones, like in the 500 range have aftermarket filters available, but then you are back to spending more money again. The really fine dust, sometimes called flour, is the dust that we are trying to stop. That stuff is so small we can't hardly see it, if at all, and it goes straight into the lungs. The larger particles that manage to get past the nose, will be pushed out by the lungs, but the super small stuff won't be evacuated too quickly or easily by your lungs. Dust collectors are kinda the same way. My big Grizzy has alot of power and sucks up just about every bit of dust off the sander, but the super fine dust get pushed through the big filter and back into the shop. I can't visually see it happening, but I know it is, and if I smack the bag, then I'll see it. I can get a much better filter bag for it, but the upgrade costs as much as the dang machine and I can only afford so much at a time, and then other things come up, so the upgrade is pushed down the list. If I was a manufacturer of air filters and dust collectors, all of my products would be down in the single micron range. I dont understand what's the point of selling a filter that doesn't filter what's really important. And I dont understand why the cost of a finer filter is so drastically more expensive. I know...now I'm rambling, but hey, we are all getting the shaft by the filteration companies. I don't even bother turning on my air filter anymore now that I've read so much about it. I still use the collector, but just for cleanliness sake. Seems the cheapest way to have clean lungs is about $300, and that's buying a face mask with a self contained air supply. If anyone is thinking about clean air and can't afford the huge budget machine, consider the full face mask with filters, which also protects the eyes too. I am going to sell my air filter and put the money towards one of those instead, since I can't afford a real machine, and can't justify all that added money for my hobbies.

Just curious, what is the model number? I will track it down and see what the smallest paticle size that it filters is.
