You have to get leverage. . .if I remember correctly when they start to turn they will go quickly, it's only the first little bit that is difficult. I used a T-handle and got mine off, but if all you have is an allen wrench then put something over it to extend the handle. The longer the handle the more leverage you will have.

What bolts are you trying to loosen and why.
I've had my 788 for years and never tried to loosen any bolts.

Im with Marsha on this. What bolts are you having trouble with? And, if your saw is less then 30 days old, should you really be trying to get inside of it to mess with the guts? seems a warranty could be voided by you tearing into it yourself.Have you tried a service center? Dale

Yea, I'm with the majority. I've had my 788 for over eight years and have never had to open it. If it's working right, DON'T.

Thanks for all the help on this bolt thing. I'll try to keep it short as to WHY.
1st came the rattle, then the advice to tighten the tension rod, then the tension rod would not come forward enough, then "now what" then watched Rick's H. VIDEO and thinking maybe I could find the cure and fix it. As far as warranty, good idea. But can not live without a saw that long I'm a long way from nowhere!

I would rather live without the saw for a while but have it fixed properly.
Been there and done that on my last one. I was 6 weeks without and it paid off in the end.
Don't mess with it.

I've had my saw for a lot longer than the warranty. Was trying to figure out how long exactly, and am thinking 6 or 7 years. I have taken mine apart to its basic components, cleaned it lubricated it, etc, and put it back together.

Thanks, everybody for the quick reponse on the tight bolt thing. The "V" on the back end of the tension rod slipped out of it's track, after getting the bolts out was able to open up the saw and put the "V" back into its track.
My 788 is back in action. And as Mark says,Let's go scare some trees.
Sincerely. Robinnest
