Default New Saw

I am going to upgrade to a new saw. I need a new boat ancor and am going to use my SS350 for that. I am considering a Hegner 18". I would like some objective opinions from those who have upgraded to a Hegner or have been using one for some time.
Thanks,
Tom

Smile Hegner saws

Tom,
I upgraded from a Ryobi to Hegner18" variable speed about 2 years ago and have nothing but good words for it. They are not a flash looking saw as so many are, but their engineering and blade systems are no nonsense common sense and they are designed to be used.
Go for it!!

Rhys,
Just curious what saws do you consider to be flashy?
I have fuzzy dice hanging from my G4
Actually the majority of our scrolling club members all have Hegners and one of them has a couple. They are excellent saws. I didn't buy one for reasons I have stated elsewhere on this forum. I get the opportunity to use theirs at the meetings. The change from a SS350 to Hegner will be dramatic.

Thanks rhys and rolf,
I was pretty much convinced but you put me over the edge. Going to get a HEGNER.

Love my Hegner, but if you can get the 22" for the few extra $$ go for it. Wish I would have. There is absolutely no servicing except a few drops of oil every 10 hours or so. They usually ship small parts, the little round white thingys on the top that hold the tension bar back need to be replaced occassionally, by regular mail and don't charge shipping, or very little. I have had mine 5 years and it still runs as good as the day I bought it! If you get a chance to purchase it through a show, you might want to check that out. I did and got a 20 year FULL warranty on the motor.

Smile Flashy saws.

Rolf,
I was at a scroll saw weekend last year and was surprised to see how many saws had cowlings to cover the working parts and even one with a laser, to guide the saw cutting. It seems to me that the blade is a pretty good guide when making a cut and the cowlings just complicated things when it came to maintenance and lubrication.
Tom,
Have you bought that saw yet?

Not yet. When your retired you have to wait for the monthly checks to roll in, see what your wife needs first, and then try to get her to buy it for you.

After 40 years of marriage and knowing my wife since 1st grade, sometimes i can make it even seem like it was her idea in the first place... Good luck!
