I just needed to vent some more, and ask for any help that someone might offer. Delta has a back order on the belt for my P-20. They don't expect to have any belts untill 9-27-07, that's right, five months down the road. Does anyone know of a different manufacturer, or a compatible belt, that will work.? OR.... if you have a P-20 that has been crushed by a truck..LOL with salvagible parts..let me know... Thanks...Larry

Larry, just curious, what happened to the original belt? How about a bunch of rubber bands? The belt on mine had a small bump on it that was making a terrible noise. I just sanded it down and it is okay now.

I was cutting a simple pattern, maybe inch long cuts in 1/4 BB with a 1/4 backer of Ply. I finished a cut..heard a small twack, like flicking your finger on a desktop, and discovered when I went to make the next cut that I was running in neutral. Saw is less than ninty days old..no wear on the belt, no bumps or abrasions, no melt , no nuthin..just plain snapped.! I might try the rubber band idea, and if I ever find the belts in stock anywhere, I will have a few for backup.. I did place an order with delta for two, so in five months I will have spare..LOL

That's terrible Larry. Did you by any chance have the cover off and a piece of wood drop into the belt compartment or was it just a dud belt ? ? My P-20 is 4 years old with thousands of hours on it and the original belt still looks like new . If I had a spare I would send it to you but I never thought of even getting one. You said you contacted the factory. Was that the one in Guelph , Ontario , Canada ? There is also a western Canada warehouse . Let me know if it was a USA factory you contacted or the Canadian locations I mentioned. The one in Guelph is the main factory for all of Canada. I could make a few phone calls in Canada and see what I can find. W.Y.

Thanks for the replies guys. Bill we only checked U.S. factories and service centers. If You have some toll free numbers for Canadian service centers and could check that would be great. The cover was on, and no debris in the compartment. I see no damage or wear to the belt, just a clean break. musta been a dud. I will check Ricks web site too.. I'm gonna run to town and scope out vaccum cleaner belts today. I'll keep you posted.

Larry: Just asking: Did you try an automotive retail parts store? They have lots and lots of pulley belts, I would have thought one of them just might fit for a while. Take the old belt parts to the store with you for best hope of matching. Also, Lee Valley (and others) have a "link belt" where you make your own belt length from plastic snap-to-gether parts. http://www.leevalley.com/wood/page.a...at=1,240,41067 I just have a hard time beleiving the Delta belt is unique to the P-20 without an industrial counter part. That wait Delta quoted you is too long. Phil |

OK Larry; I will make a few phone calls on Monday and see if I can locate one for you. Might get a spare one for my own P-20 at the same time just in case . . . . . If they don't send to USA , I could have yours sent to me and then I could forward it on to you. W.Y. Phil; It is a stretchy round neoprene belt so would be a specialty item . My original one is yellow in color . Don't know if they have changed the color since I got my saw or not. I take mine off about once a year and clean it and put it back on and so far it looks like new. Link belts would not work because it doesn't use 'V' pulleys. The pulleys are rounded and smooth on the bottom and outer edges for in case a person wants to cross pulley the belt for up to 40 some different speeds compared to the standard six with straight pulley to pulley. Good idea about checking the auto parts store. Some of them have catalogs for specialty belts and might just get lucky and find one that way. I know for my wood lathe belt, the auto parts stores order in my belts overnight but don't stock them because they are not a common size. But those are V belts so probably easier to get.

Try looking at a place that sells sewing machine belts or vacuum cleaner belts. You might find a temporary replacement.

I found a Eureka Vacuum Cleaner belt Part # 65100 that fits , and seems to work well. (I've only run it for ten minutes) I back ordered two belts from Delta, and this should hold me till they come in. Any delta owners out there might want to buy a two pack of these Eureka belts, they're cheap at a buck and a quarter each compared to $ 8 for the delta part, and seem to make a good emergency belt. WY if you're reading this post don't call around looking for the belt for me, I think we'll call it covered for now. Thanks to all of you that chimed in and helped.
