Sorry...it's hook and loop and fits the standard 5"-diameter. I spent some time afterwards with the coarse...it removed 1/8" of cherry in less than 5 minutes to even out the rails of a piece I'm working on.

For hardwoods, I still went back over it with 220-grit after the fine grit, but it was just to remove some fine scratches (that probably resulted from my habit of pressing too hard)

They work with 5 and 8 hole units as well. I tried using the course one on the unfaced edge of my countertop (particle board and the thin edge of laminate on the top) and ended up breaking the cutters on the outer edge of the disc. The package does say bare wood only, so I'm not holding this against the product. Other than that, it worked, my new fridge now fits in where the old fridge was.

Cheers,
Draken

Thank you for the info.I will have to invest the money in a set .I think theyd work slick, I know the microplane drums are great. I bet they could really rip the meat off your bones if they came in contact with skin (yea, I'll prolly try that as well,,,sigh...)! Dale

LOL...I have to admit...over the winter I build up callouses something fierce on the bottom of my feet. I've never liked those foot razor things (I cut myself enough carving that I couldn't imagine cutting the bottom of my foot with one of those things.

In Lee Valley a few years ago, they suggested using the hand-held microplanes on your feet...so I put the fine one on my sander and tried it. After I got done laughing (IT TICKLED!!!) I found that it worked great!

Are these available in Europe? I just checked the manufacturers website and it claims they aren't, although I seem to recall seeing something like them being sold as rasps at a woodworking show a couple of years ago.

By the way, microplanes are great in the kitchen for pureeing garlic, ginger and onions .
