Unhappy 788 broke

Well, big yellow is broke. I need to buy a new upper blade chuck and knob screw. I think it was my fault, tho. I pretty sure I was tighten the blade too tight and it striped out the threads. So I'm out of commission for a while.

Just thought I would pass this along to other 788ers who might be torquing down they're blades too much.

Later,
-Bill

Wow, that sucks Bill. How far away is your nearest parts supplier?? I never saw a need to really torque that hard on my clamps. Dale

Dale-

My service center is just across the bay in Tampa so it's very close. I'll get the parts and will up and making sawdust in on time.

I guess I don't need to tighten up the upper blade all that much to get it to grip.

I've only got about a month on my DeWalt and when I first got it, I was a little worried about the clamps wondering how much my thumb would hurt after tightening it. But, to my surprise, you just have to give it a small twist and it's tight enough to hold the blade and not difficult to undo. Thanks for the warning though. I don't know how it happened, but my bottom clamp got over tight the other day and it was a real fight to get it loose to put a new blade in. I do appreciate the warning!

Sorry to hear about that, Bill. I was out today finishing up the resawing and planing for my latest set of projects and almost got the saw out and set up just so I could claim to have started the actual sawing today. Since I'm going 3 fairly complex clocks at once, I think my 788 and I are going to be spending lots and lots of time together for a while. I hope mine is feeling healthier than yours!

Default DeWalt parts on-line

I tried to start up my saw yesterday and it was no-go. After a little tinkering, I figured out that the problem was in the switch -- it didn't work. Checking the DeWalt web site, I discovered that they have an on-line parts store that will ship directly to my house. Since I have to work during the week and going to the parts dealer would take a couple of hours at least, this seemed like a good way to go.

So, if you ever need parts for your DeWalt, you can go here. You'll have to create an account, but you can opt out of the spam. Once signed up, you can do searches, get a blow-up of the parts, and place your order. Very nice.
