| Behave Yourself..I can't. |
I went to Office depot a few days ago and got several different weights of paper to try glue ups. I needed weights of paper not generalizations. I got #24--#32---#67--#110 I used spray adhesive and mod podge for adhesion to 1/4" plywood. #24 spray glue and mod podge had a few bubbles ans had to baby sit it. #32 had one bubble with spray adhesive none with MP. #110 & #67 Had no bubbles with either MP or spray glue. My conclusion is, I'll be using #67 bond paper for ink jet printers for printing out puzzles. There is a $2.00 difference in price for the #67 vs 110 for 250 sheets. After 1/2 hour drying time I then covered each with MP. I had no issues other than the regular brush strokes. I applied several coats of MP (4 coats) with 20 minutes between coats and after 1 hour of additional drying time, I used 320 wet dry sand paper on a sanding block and smoothed out the MP brush strokes wiped clean with a damp Cloth. Looks great and smooth as glass. I'm in the process of doing this same technique on my daughters wedding invitation I'll post pics when it's done..

Mike - thanks for the great info. However, isn't it cheaper to have your picture printed at the local CVS? Also, how much MP did you put? Was it just light coats?

Don't have a cvs...but other places charge about 15-19 cents to copy from memory card plus time and gas to drive to the place to get it done. Mainly I'm talking about pictures I use from like coloring book sites etc.. I use a foam brush to spread the mod podge and try to put on thin even coats.

Good data there Mike. My only concern with the thicker paper is if it would peel apart. Thicker paper tends to not hold up very well. Although, with the MP coating I'll bet the paper gets a good soaking. Let us know how the heavier paper holds up. Good luck with it. Puzzles are fun to make and sell/give away aren't they? Whatever happened to that puzzle that you sent all over the USA?

Good information, Mike. I never thought of sanding the MP. That's a good idea. Thanks for posting this.

Thanks for the great info Mike. I also prefer MP to spray glue. I have also found that a light 220 sanding and tacking off the dust before spreading the MP on the wood helps adhesion. I had not thought of 4 top coats followed by a sanding to remove the brush marks. As far as paper, for puzzles, I usually print photos I have taken and use the Canon Photo Paper Glossy or Plus Glossy. It is quite thick (about 45lb) and does not require MP on top. george

One more valuable tip....If you use the black 320 wet/dry sand paper...Be really really sure all the mod podge is cured. You wouldn't want a black mark on the edge of your puzzle now would you. Don't ask me how I learned this one.. I think I mislead some of you when I was referring to pictures printing from my computer and type of paper. The pictures I'm referring too are typically coloring page style for childrens tray style puzzles. Not photos for jigsaw puzzles... Like this one.
