Need some help locating a pattern to make a tray puzzle of the United States for my Grand Kids. I have searched and all I found was patterns for displaying all of the state quarters. I know that I could modify this pattern for a tray puzzle, but I saw one cut on the ssw&c site with in the last year that was really neat with info on the pattern. Of course, now that I want to cut one, I can not find the info. Any and all help would really be appreciated.

I'm glad it was of some use...I know there are some patterns available as well, but this is what I use for banks, signs etc. I'm pulling for you ...we're all in this together...to quote Red Green. Or If she doesn't find you handsome...she ought to find you handy. LOL

Darrell, do you really need a pattern? How 'bout a colored map of the states that you can usually find in the school supplies section of a major store or at specialized educational stores, Just mount it and cut along state lines. Carter |

Carter, you are so right. Thanks for simplifying this project. I'm very famous for over thinking and turning a simple project into a multi-layer complex project with multiple spread sheets. ROTFLMBO The previous statement is a tad overstated, but my wife would probably tell you that I do tend to over complicate things. Thanks for putting me back on course.

When you're up to your buttocks in alligators, it's hard to remember the primary objective was to drain the swamp.

Jim, you sound as if you and I both have been lost in the same swamp once upon a time. LMBO

Darrell, I have cut several of these for various kids, granddaughter included. Try to remember the following. Alaska really has twice the area of Texas. You will probably have to merge the following sets of states into one piece to be able to cut them cleanly since they are so small. CN,, MA, & RI; VT, and NH; and MD and DE Use as small a blade as possible ( I used a 2/0 puzzle blade on my last one) cut in Jan., search my posts for the U.S. Puzzle thread to see a picture, since the kerf is cumulative as you cut more and more states out of the piece. The only change I would make to that puzzle is to move the main pattern closer to the bottom of the wood and move Alaska to the top left corner where it belongs. My wife wanted to know why I did not include the state capitols on the piece. I told her I can't print that small. Have fun. george

George where did you acquire your pattern? Why not mark the states with a gold stick on star? Prior to clear coating, I would think it will stay just fine..or dip the eraser on a pencil in acrylic paint and the round dot turns out petty good too once again prior to clear coating. I have tried both methods and they work for me.
