Thanks, Bill! I had two identical pictures to work with. The first I used for my top layer pieces. I basically just decided which parts of the puzzle I wanted to "bring out" ahead of time, in this case the top/outside of the umbrella, the kids' extended left arms and the front/left wing of the plane.

I cut along the color lines of those portions and then I cut each element into it's individual pieces, being sure to cut out small "anchors" at certain strategic points which would later be glued to their appropriate pieces underneath. I then reassembled each element (the arm, the umbrella, etc) and set them aside.

Next comes the tricky part. I took each assembled element and layed them exactly over their identical counterparts on the main, uncut puzzle board. I removed each of the anchors, put glue on them, but stayed away from their edges to avoid spill out, and reinserted them. For each one, while keeping pressure on the anchor, I removed the adjoining pieces just in case glue spill out occurred. I did this for all of the anchors and allowed to dry.

The rest was basically cutting the main puzzle board. When I got to an anchor piece, I would cut out the piece under it and would end up with a double layered piece.

Default Wow that is Great.

What else is there to say. I've not got to the point where i'd like to try one of those multi layer puzzles. Still having fun with single layers. How long did it take to cut that?

It's hard to say because I worked on it a bit at a time, usually later at night when the kids went to bed. I got it done over a few weeks working on it here and there. A good amount of time was spent just planning how I wanted to cut it/layer it, and how I wanted to use the figurals. One of these times I'll have to clock myself.
