Isn't it nice when it's something you made them and they get right on it activating those little minds. Great gift!!! I'll bet she brings it in for show and tell...

Wonderful job. 20 minutes for a five year old is an eternity of time to be concentrating on one thing. Congratulations on stimulating her mind to the point that outside distractions could be ignored. I especially like the freehand cutting. How big was it? I like the dark frame but am curious, why did you stain it dark? As she get faster and better with the puzzles you make for her, try using #2, then #2/0 and finally #2/0 puzzle blades. The sequence will make the pieces fit more tightly with fewer gaps and increase the challenge of putting the puzzle together. My almost 6 year old granddaughter has graduated to 50 piece 12x12" puzzles with very tight pieces, #2/0 puzzle blades, and will work on them for as long as 30 minutes at a time. The tightness and number of pieces were her request, not my decision.

I think that's a table!

Nice job - I second the recommendation to move to thinner blades. For my family, a #3 is about right for 3-4 years olds. Once they get older than that, they can handle the puzzle blades.

I laid the puzzle on a dark table. I thought about using a #3 blade to cut out the puzzle. I went with the #5 for a looser fit to make it easier to put together.

I have a couple of other puzzles that I did with a puzzle blade. I even had a hard time putting that together!

The original size of the picture was 8x11.5 its a little smaller than that now. I did not want straight line edges so I made the edges curvy.

Very good work Dale. It appears she will really get a lot of fun out of that.
