Default Is a portrait possible from this old pic?

Just the central image, including the cannon, not the surroundings.

Also, could someone send me the link to the GIMP tutorial?

Keep in mind, either way you will have very little facial detail. It is a cool picture though.

Like many old photos, there was a lot of detail missing from the picture. I did my best to keep as much of the original detail, but still had to use some creative license. I hope you will be happy with it.
