Question Jewish Pattern Section

I am getting more and more requests for cuttings with a Jewish flair. I have only a couple and am looking for more.

Does anyone have patterns to share - OR - know where I can obtain same????

Thanks in advance for your help.

Fred,
I have always had a fascination with the Jewish culture but haven't made the effort to do much. Do you have any suggestions of what you would like? I would enjoy making some patterns.

Fred, there are several puzzle patterns in past issues of SSWC by Carl Hird-Rutter and Judy and Dave Peterson. After that, you kind of have to create your own. There are very few images permitted in the Jewish religion, menorah's, star's of David, doves Torah scrolls, prayer shawls and family gatherings are among them. I have found several good images in the various iterations of Print Shop that I have used for scrolling.
I have also used Judy Gale Roberts napkin holder pattern and substituted some of the above images for her Christmas trees etc..

Default jewish ornament

I posted a picture of a Menorah ornament that I cut ffrom a pattern from Sylvia. And I made a mobile with it along with Shalom, and star of David ornaments I got the information that I needed from this web site Judaism 101.
And found it very interesting.

There are a lot of possibilities for good word art. Hebrew calligraphy can be quite beautiful, and the blockiness of the script should lend itself well to scrolling.

Transliterations of Hebrew and Yiddish phrases could also be good:
Shalom ("peace"), Oy Vay, Nu?, Alter Kocker ("old fart"), L'Chaim ("to life"), Mazal Tov ("good luck"), Bubbe ("Grandma"), Zayda ("Grandpa"), Meshuga ("crazy"), etc.

There isn't prohibition against images in most modern forms of Judaism (certainly not like the strong prohibition against images in Islam), and as George says there are several common icons. The Magen David (Star of David) is very open to artistic interpretation.

Many of the holidays have iconography which could lend itself to scrollwork. Looking online at Jewish giftshops should give some ideas (although there's some really tacky stuff out there - "Lucy the Latke?" Oy Vay!). Likewise searching for "judaism" and selecting "images" on your favorite search engine should give some ideas.

I'll see if I can put up a pattern of the Hebrew alphabet.

Images are permitted in the Jewish religion, just not of G-d.

If you do a search for "Jewish clip art" on Google and press images you'll find some really cool pictures which would land themselves very nicely to patterns.

I can think of so many fretwork scenes that could be designed based on the old testament.
The tablets containing the 10 Commandments would make a wonderful plaque. specially if it were done in Hebrew. You can check out Wiki for some samples.
