Default How do I convert

a pdf file into a jpg file?

I have a sheet of patterns but it is in pdf format. I want to take one of the patterns off of several different sheets and make a new sheet.

IE.
page 1 has a b c d e f
Page 2 has g h i j k l m

I want to make page 3 containing patterns a c e g h i

But I just have adobe reader and it does not allow me to crop and word will not let me cut and paste....

Irfanview will not allow me to open a pdf file...grrrrr

Gimp let me do it save the entire page as a .jpg file but not sure how to save an individual pattern off one page and store on another page.
I'll keep workin on it. though...

mike, to convert.
Open your pdf file and show the page you want to convert and then click on the edit button at the top, then click on copy to clipboard. Now go to your program, I use gimp and elements, click on the file tab and then on create and then from clipboard. That's how I do it. you have to do one page at a time though. For example, you have 5 pages on pdf you'll have 5 different files. Hope this helps.

Glad it helped. I just figured out how to do that myself like 3 days ago. Until that, I was printing them and rescanning them... I was so glad to figure that out, saves paper and ink. lol.

Me too thanks a ton. As you probably have guessed most pattern designers save as .pdf files. We as the end user cannot make any changes unless we have adobe full version. I cannot justify the money to buy that. I'm glad we could figure out how to convert to a workable .jpg file.

I like to modify .pdf patterns by changing text etc, but could not now maybe I can....<big Smile>
thanks again.

I'm sure you know there is a howto on how to use gimp on this forum. You can also find a howto buy finding it on Utube. The ones for Adobe Photoshop will also work on Gimp. The two are basically the same and are used in the same way. I figured out how to use elements before I did gimp and then once I got gimp I had no problems with it. Anyways, I can't remember who posted the howto on here but I'm sure it isn't hard to find.

Corel Draw lets you save drawings to a pdf file. It also lets you open pdf files, where you can do anything you want to the drawing. The program is well worth the money.

I don't want to step on anyone's toes, but don't you lose a little by using the Adobe copy method? I tried it and the graphics deteriorate when you paste them in your art/graphics program? Of course if that is acceptable... I do have a better way if you are interested. Like I said, I'm not trying to upstage anyone. If your interested let me know.

BTW - You do have all the tools to make an exact copy.

Hey if you have a better way that I can understand and already have the tools for please go for it...Yes there is some deterioration to the pattern using my work around method.....

This thread is open to any and all suggestions...Please help....

My biggest problem is understanding the terminology in the programs I have. I'm a real puter numpty....

Alright Mike try this:

1. Open a pdf file with Adobe Reader and set it to 100%
2. Open IrfanView
3. Select Options
4. Select Capture/Screenshot
5. Set Capture Area to: Custom rectangle/region capture
6. Take note of the Capture Method: Hot key - I think the default is Ctrl + F11
7. Click on Start
8. Now you will be directed to the Adobe Reader program and you will see a crosshair
9. Move the crosshair to the upper left hand corner and left click the mouse
10. Move the crosshair to the lower right hand corner and left click the mouse
11. You are now directed back to IrfanView where you can save it to your favorite file extension
12. To capture a picture in the future open IrfanView, select Options, Capture/Screenshot, Start and capture the picture. The next time you want to capture a picture go back to Adobe Reader, position the picture and hit Control + F11 and complete the capture.

This method lets you save the graphic as is the original with no deterioration. Take note that you need to position you pdf file before you start the capture. Good luck with it and if you get stuck I will help you past it.
