Hello all, I need to know what kinds of licenses/permission/I don't really know what, I would need to sell the things I cut in a consignment shop, craft shop, or at a fair... I was wanting to try and make some money off of something I love and am already doing and I wasn't sure what I needed to do before I started other than have a stock of items to sell... all the licenses/permits confuse me a lot... So could those who have done this already please help me with knowing what else I need? Esther

I moved your thread to the business section for you. You may want to browse through the Business Section as there have been a lot of discussions on selling your work and you're bound to find some answers in here already.

Hi Esther, It really depends on where you live. The rules for selling vary from state to state. For example in NY where I live it's a real pain. You have to get a certificate of authority to collect sales tax and file quarterly sales tax returns. No license is required. You can google something like - selling at craft fairs in (insert state) and it should point you in the right direction. Ray

I just recently started selling at craft fairs legally, here in Texas. I just applied for a Sales tax permit and it was free. I do have to file a sales report every quarter. I then got a personal property tax notice so I had to value my equipment and pay a yearly tax on it. ($36) I am in the process of buying a products liabilty Insurance on the toys I sell.(optional) There are a few hoops to jump through but nothing too bad.

Lou, Janette moved the post to here. Moderators do that sometimes just to keep us on our toes. See post #3 here.
