Hey everyone. i am going to be participating in my very first craft show this December. Since I have never done anything like this... I'm looking for advice, and I have a few questions. 1. They say we must charge sales tax. They will take care of it for me, but I have to report it and all that. What all is involved with that? 2. Are there any legal issues I should know about before I begin selling? Do I have to be a registered business or anything like that? 3. Anything else I'm not thinking of that you need to warn me of? Thanks for any and all help. I sat in on a few craft shows with my grandparents as a kid, but I have never been the artist or the one in charge of the booth. I'm a bit nervous, but very excited at the same time. Thanks! Trisha |

All of that varies depending on where you live.

1. - Not sure what you mean by "They will take care of it for me, but I have to report it and all that." ?? Is there a central check-out at this show? or do you collect the money for the items you sell? 2. You might want to check with your local courthouse, or on the web, for information on selling in TX. Each state has different rules on what you need to do to sell. 3. other info = somewhere in the forums here are numerous threads on selling at craft shows. Check the "sticky" topics and you should be able to find some. They have lots of tips in them. Good luck! and have fun!! T |

Trisha, 1. Normally when you have a venue taking sales tax for you, you sell your item plus the sales tax. Then at the end of the day or event they will have someone you meet up with to give the sales taxes collected for the day or event. 2. Most state laws aren't really concerned about registered businesses at craft fairs, they just want their sales tax money. 3. Only other thing that you might need to ask your show is if you need to carry any general liability insurance. Other then that have fun and start networking out with other vendors at the show to figure out where other shows are, and which ones are good. |
