Talking What are you looking for in an intarsia pattern?

Hi everyone!

I've been designing my own intarsia patterns for a few years and would love to offer intarsia patterns to the scrollsawing community. I recently figured out how to use adobe illustrator, so I can make professional looking patterns.
However, I'm not really sure what people are looking for in their patterns, nor how much I should charge.

So I have a survey of sorts for those who buy intarsia patterns:

Do you like having example photographs or are you okay with a greyscale sample image?

What sort of information do you want on the pattern itself (ie recommended grain direction, tips for cutting, etc)?

How do you like the pattern to arrive? (ie digitally with no shipping cost and the pattern gets to you instantaneously or printed?)

If printed... do you like having the pieces arranged by color and grain (to save space and copying) or do you prefer the traditional method of one huge sheet of paper with the entire pattern on it?

Red ink? or normal black? (or some other color?)

How much would you pay for the pattern?

any other suggestions or ideas for what to put on the pattern?

and any suggestions for patterns to create? (I prefer animals, but would try to make anything)

=) thanks in advance for your help!

1. I like having a photograph! I do want to see how it has been raised and lowered.
2. I like grain direction.
3. I'm OK both ways for how the pattern should arrive.
4. I like getting the entire pattern on one sheet - I make templates from my patterns so I want it in one piece.
5. I don't care about ink color - I make black and white copies.
6. I think about $8 - 15.
7. I can't think of a pattern subject. But if you make it we intariaist will come.

I agree with Sally on all points. I would like to find patterns of old British houses, Tudor style with thatched roofs and gardens. Southwest designs and scenes. You might consider doing series like old farm tractors, old barns, classic cars, etc...

If I think of anything else I'll let you know.

The only differences I have with what Sally has listed is

#4 either way, but if arranged by colour perhaps a smaller version of the entire pattern on say 8 1/2 by 11 for reference.

Sally stated it well. One of my sources provides a full sheet pattern as well as individual pieces. I copy onto adhesive paper, therefore I don't need to makes a gazillion coipes.
