Cool Another Copyright Question

I received a Cricut for my birthday/Christmas. (For those who have never heard of one, it is mainly used for scrapbooking to make designs, letters, cards, etc.) After playing with it, I realized I could turn some of the graphics into scroll saw patterns. I know I can't publish the patterns as my own, but can I cut the patterns out and sell them? I read the legal section online (Cricut.com) but I'm still not sure if I could sell anything I make, whether it be wood or paper. Any ideas?

I would think that you would need to get ahold of the company and ask them. I see their site has a forum of its own - did you check there?

well, the one topic I saw on selling your work wasn't very informative - basically it said that no one would know how you cut your shapes so how would they know if you used the Cricut to do it.

I did check on their site but it only confused me more. I even tried reading the manual, but it didn't help any. I send them a message this morning. Thanks for your help.

The one line that caught my attention was this one:
"Access to this Web site does not confer and shall not be considered as conferring upon anyone any license under any of Provo Craft and Novelty, Inc. any third party's intellectual property rights. " Intellectual property rights include selling the finished items. Basically this says no, but that may not be their intent. I'd be curious to hear what their response is.

Jerri I don't know about the copy right stuff but the machine looks like a fun toy I saw the infomercial the other night! I see it can hook up to computer with a module or software. I have a vinyl cutter and it appears to work off the same principal but a lot less expense and compact. I have had a lot of fun with the vinyl cutter and have made many patterns for it. If you can use those patterns for woodworking you can use woodworking patterns for it You will be the envy of the crowd! If I can help you out with anything in particular just holler at me. Have fun!
