| Jigsaw Puzzle Maker | ![]() I'm from the lower Niagara River region in New York State. After the water plunges over Niagara Falls, it cuts through a very deep gorge on it's way north toward Lake Ontario. On it's way downstream, the water develops into fearsome rapids, spills into a massive whirlpool, and then develops into even more rapids. Eventually, further downstream, the water calms and flows gently by a few villages and finally spills into the lake. The Lower Niagara is quite beautiful, and (downstream) is a wonderful place to boat, fish and watch the sunsets. The salmon fishing in the fall is exceptional. I get my canoe into the river several times each summer to keep the bones moving. Here is a picture of me with Issue #35. The picture was taken by my wife, and I am standing on an overlook which is built on the remaining portion of an old stone power plant which collapsed many years ago. Behind me is the Rainbow Bridge which connects the USA with Canada (the Canadian side is the one with all of the hotels and casinos behind me). The bridge spans the Niagara River and Gorge. As a tidbit of trivia, the bridge's first wire was put in place by a kite being flown from one shore to the other. Once it was in place, it acted as a guidewire for more cables, and much later, after adding considerably more cables and materials, led to the bridge's eventual creation. In part to recognize that significance, an Annual Kite Festival is held locally. Off to the left (just out of frame) is Niagara Falls. This is the closest I can get without paying about $20 to park, so if anyone wants a closer look, you'll have to just fly out here and see! Last edited by Scrolling Days; 06-11-2009 at 04:54 AM. |

G'day all, Thought I'd start a new thread for Shawn's excellent suggestion. This one, I'll make a Sticky and lock it. Just post your pics and info in the original thread and a Mod will put them here for all to see.

John Browner I'm from Kalgoorlie-Boulder western Australia. The area is located 600kms east of Perth with a population of about 30,000. Best known for Gold mining, the Golden Mile is the richest Square Mile on the Face of the earth. Almost all underground mines have been replaced by open cut mining. Now there are various types of mining projects in the area including nickel, Gemstone, Silver, and amethyst. Kalgoorlie -Boulder is also the Largest city in the world, by area. All potable water is piped 600 kms from Mundaring. This pipeline was opened in 1903. When looking at a map of the area, you will notice hundred of huge lakes, these unfortunately are mostly dry salt lakes. Every 10 years or so some will fill with water if we have good rains and remain filled for a couple of years. This is when water sports, Yachting, canoeing, etc become popular in the town. The photo was taken on top of "Mt Charlotte". This is where the water pipeline from Perth ends.

My little corner of the world is in the middle of the state in the middle of the US. I live in central Nebraska with my husband of almost 14 years (it will be 14 on June 23rd). We are lucky to live in the country and our home is surrounded by rolling pastures. North of us is the Nebraska sandhills and south of us is farmland. We live within 10 miles of the the Oregon trail and the Mormon trail. The worlds largest rail classification complex (Union Pacific Railroad Bailey Yards) is in North Platte, Nebraska which is where I grew up 60 miles away. ![]() ![]() It's a beautiful peaceful place to live and I love to be home! Nebraska the good life!

The island is part of a group with Saltspring being the Largest . It is between Vancouver on the mainland and Victoria on Vancouver Island . There are 3 ferry terminals to get off the island . | ![]() This is Casey and me at Bull Shoals Dam here in Arkansas. The lake has over a thousand miles of shoreline, and the cold water from the dam (around 55 F) makes for some of the best trout fishing around. John, please add this pic to the locked thread, and I hope we can get some more contributions to this thread (hint, hint, everyone )Jerry

Ok, Here's a pic of me in my booth at the Scandinavian Festival last weekend. (Please don't laugh at the silly outfit I had to wear!!) I know it's not just this mag visible but - the one's that I gotta show are the ones with my work on the cover You can see THIS issue of SSw on the wall showing my lighthouse so I'm figuring that counts. Not the best picture of me but probably the only one that'll get taken for awhile. One nice thing...a lot of those pieces shown got sold at this show ![]() Attachment 21237 |
