| Thanks, Cathy .
I shall be watching the post avidly now until my copy arrives! It's one of those tips that seem so obvious when they're pointed outand I hope a lot of people will find it useful.
Gill

| I was admiring how clever the drill setup was and never realized that you (Gill) were the wizard that came up with the idea. Thanks for a great tip that I will be incorporating in the future.

| Congrats and a question. Do you need to drill angled holes when doing inlays? Several issues have such projects but only mention the table angle and perhaps using a really small diameter drill bit. |

| Hi Mike
I find that drilling a pilot hole vertically, then cutting inlay at an angle means that when the inlay is fitted, the hole is exaggerated and more difficult to camouflage. Drilling the pilot hole at an angle commensurate to the angle at which the blade will cut helps to minimise the amount of camouflage that is required.
Another way of looking at it is to think about how you feed the blade into the pilot hole. If the hole has been drilled vertically, when you tension your blade it will have to deal with pressure applied against it when you tilt your table. You will force your blade against one side of the hole on the top piece of wood and against the opposite side of the hole on the bottom piece. It is a bit like using a blade with a kink! Of course, the blade will naturally straighten itself as soon as it begins to cut, but not before it has distorted the pilot hole.
