| Correction to Gift Box Ornaments, Holiday Toys Ornaments & Gifts The measurement to make the angle block for the Gift Box Ornaments by Dan Van Ess were incorrect. To make the angle block, start with a 2" x 2" x 3" block of wood. Measure in 1/4" from the edge and use a ruler to make a mark perpendicular to the stock. Measure in and make a mark at 1/4", 1", and 1 3/4". Draw a line from the top of the first line to each of these marks to create a series of angled lines. Number the lines from 1 to 3. Cut off the top of the block so it will fit under the scroll saw arm. Use the angle block to set the table to the correct angle for each ring. The numbers on the patterns refer to the numbered lines on the angle block. |

| Ok Bob,
I am having a senior moment here. When you draw the angle lines do they start at the first line, 1/4" in from the edge or from the edge of the block?
Please attach a sketch or just give us the corresponding angles.

| I thought it was a fairly simple explanation, but now after reading Rolfs post, and looking at the photos in the magazine, and looking at the picture of both the gift box ornaments on page 93, and the nesting baskets on page 15 I got confused, but, alas, I believe Ive figured it out, but dont get the firing squad if I'm wrong.................. The 1/4th inch in from the edge is there to give you a nice straight line to go off of, as opposed to butting the edge of the angle guage block against the blade. Your lines should start 1/4th inch in from that line. The other measurements (1" and 1 3/4") are running dimensions, all beginning at that first line youve drawn. Correct me too if I am wrong in my synopsis Bob please.
The thing that got me confused is because looking at the angle guage block on page 15 it appears that the top of each of those lines do not meet up, and that there should be a set of measurements for that as well.BUT, Those lines are drawn out on a piece of stock that was 3 inches wide, and then was cut shorter, removing from the top, where the lines all came together.Thats where that sentance about cutting from the top of that block to fit under your blade holders made it all click for me.
So id venture to say Rolf...1/4"in from the first line.
(Did I make sense, or did I just confuse things even more for everyone?)

| Dale your explanation is how I drew it up. Now about the 2x2x3 block of wood.

| You nailed it Dale.
I tried to get the author to give me angles, but he feels strongly that his method is more accurate...
I'm not sure I understand you other question, Rolf.

I am a picture person for some things. Will print this and I assume that I will understand once I work on it.

| Bob,
I was just being a wise __. I was just wondering why I would need a block of wood that big. 2 x 3 x 3/4 is what I used.
Did my first post come across a bit snippy? If it did, it was not ment to.
I just did a quick drawing in ACAD. I hope this adds some clarity.
the angles are 7, 27, and 41 deg.

| And here I thought this was going to be simple with presetting the angles on the block of wood!! GEES!! Remember me, the "2 small lines past the 1/2 inch mark" gal? LOL. Now I have to go "one medium size line past the 2 small lines in" and start from there? I'm sure I'll figure it out, sooner or later!! ACtually 2, 27 & 41 are all I need! Thanks so much Rolf.
