I would like to see the patterns left on the pullout, for the same reasons as Dragon.
And thanks for the reply about the red ink, I will shut up about it.

Bob,

If you do go to splitting patterns with registration marks, I have found that some copy machines/scanners/printers slightly alter the aspect ratio of the image &/or introduce some keystoning. Folks may find that the pattern lines from the re-assembled patterns will not align even if the registration marks are in alignment.

Board members - to test your copier/scanner/printer; copy/scan/print a page of graph paper (or some other image with long perpendicular lines) 4 times, rotating the original 1/4 turn between each operation (in the case of the printer, rotate the output). Overlay the output on a light table and check to see if all of the lines "line up" or not. If "yes" - then no problems, if "no" - then you might have problems accurately re-assembling split patterns.

I scan if my scanner is big enough. I got to Office Depot or Kinkos when my scanner can't handle the job.

My 2 cents is to leave them whole and let us worry about splitting them up or not.

NEVER EVER do I cut the original.

Like the rest, I scan the patterns I want, and save them in the computer. On large intarsia patterns, I use a light box and trace them. Since I use the carbon paper and trace method, this works for me. I use the pattern over and over.

I make a copy of the pattern I'm going to use.

I keep the original with the magazine.

PhotoCopy then keep with magazine. Had to create an index to remember where the original is.

Likewise,
Photo copy, or scan, and keep the original with the magazine.

I have been thinking(duck) and strongly feel that the pattern shoud stay on the sheets the way they are. Tracing from the magazine would be very hard, especially with the larger patterns.
The only bitch I have is the staples. The magazine comes in a mailing envelope or clear bag in the store so why staple the patterns in? I use a knife to pry up the staples, remove the pattern and then refold the staple and hope it does not break.
Well one more bitch, how about a magazine a month.

Bob,
I don't know how everyone else copies the patterns, but I have to remove them from the staples in the magazine fold them every which way to fit the scanner/copier, copy them (in pieces if they are large) then try to match the pieces to reassemble the pattern to attach to the wood. When all this is done I end up with original patterns that are far from smooth. Then I try to put them back onto the staples in the magazine. After that exercise fails I end up putting the original patterns in an standard 8.5 X 11 envelope and try to keep that with the corresponding Magazine in a file folder. Is this what everyone else is doing or is there an easier way?

Hank . I used to fight with the patterns , fold, munch and try to straighten them out and return them to the mag. after copying on my printer .UNTIL , I realized the top of my printer comes off and it is so much easier to copy now. I have only owned it for 4 years and didn't know it had that feature until the lid fell off one day .
