| Always save the originals and use a copy. I can see where having such a nice pullout pattern section must add a considerable cost to producing the magazine, hopefully not so much of a cost that you get away from having that. One thing I think I would prefer just as much or possibly even more, even though I have easy access to some large blueprint copiers(up to 48 inches wide by endless length), would be having the larger patterns broke down with register lines and printed on 11 by 17 page centerfolds , but either way, Id still photocopy them.

| Are you thinking of doing away with the pull out, and maybe offering a downloadable pdf instead. I agree with Lucky... it must be expensive for your magazine to have the pull out.

| I'll join the chorus here in that I never use the original. I make copies and file the originals.

| I scan them and do any re-assembly or editing on the computer.

| The book department asked me to check it out. The were wondering if it's better to have a pullout or to have the patterns split across two (or more) pages with registration marks so you can photocopy it in sections and reassemble it easily.
Since most of you photocopy it anyway...would this make it easier for you?

| As an old printer, I would love to see some registration marks on the patterns, whether they are on the big pullout or spread across pages. You could drill through the registration mark and use a dowel for alignment on those things where it was needed. (realizing the cost to print the pullout in red, I'll ask--but not lobby too hard)
On an aside, when I first started buying the magazine, I was stupid and never figured I'd cut something more than once, so I cut the patterns and THEN did the photocopy of the item I wanted. Boy, did I learn an expensive lesson.
Anything I really want now is scanned to a thumb drive. It's something all of us need to purchase to keep pics of of completed works, scans of patterns and general notes. If your computer crashes, the data is not included on the hard drive. With the prices really coming down, these little USB drives are becoming so cheap it does not make sense to have a few gigabytes lying around.

| Thanks Jim...we checked into printing in red, and it was really, really expensive. As an old printer, you understand the cost of going from single color to 4-process color...and we'd have to go with the four plates because straight magenta isn't the kind of red people want!

| I like to see the pattern for a project in one and I can scan in pieces and put it back together myself. I am not fond of patterns that have been cut already since it is not always clear as to where to reassemble them.
