| Whirligig I have made a few Wirligigs in the past, they are nice to see them spinning in the breeze, the only problem is when out doors the dampness and moisture effects there motion and they have to be adjusted occasionaly by loosening the screws. Look and enjoy, feedbacks are welcome good or bad. Edward |

| Back when my web site use to be called Wood N Stuff.(Now used by someone else, I never registered it.) I made bird houses and Whirligigs. I have forgotten how much fun the Whirligigs were to make. I have a mess of old pine 1 x's. I might clunk out a few.... Just for old times.
PS Edward. those look great. My most complicated Whirligig was a 3ft tall Uncle Sam waving a flag in one hand and saluting with the other. (I think the pattern was in a old Wood Mag. a few years back.

| G'day Mike,
Great work.
You don't see many of those in Oz, I may just have to be the odd man out.
I really like them all. |

| Ed, your wirlys are grand, for sure. and your painting, is awsome. I can't draw a straight line with a brush. that spooted Chicken is to die for. how cute is that. and do you have a air brush?? some of the birds look like it. orrrrrr, you are one dang good painter. I have to show this thread to hubby. he loves making the wirlygigs. and the one bad thing is, they do have to be oiled reguarly. and sometimes the wings hit the dowl, and break. dang. and the paint, always come off, in craks and that lets moisture in. I am thinking of trying some fiberglass reson on ares. what do you think about that. my thoughts are , it keeps the boat in the water. and doesn't pell. just not sure. do I need the fiber fabrick too. or do you think the reson would work on its own? love them all. so cool. your friend Evie |

| Evie, those whirligigs were made by me, not Ed, I responded to his original post and wanted to show him the whirligigs I made. I would not add resin to any whirligigs wings as you do not want to add too much weight to them. the lighter the better so they will spin more easily. To prevent the paint from chipping off, always put a primer paint on the raw wood, then apply 2 or 3 coats of outdoor oil based paint, sanding between coats. When the paint dries apply 2 coats of exterior polyurathane again sanding between coats, as an added protection you can apply some paste wax as a final coat. I find that this will prevent deterioration of the wood and paint flacking off. Yes the chicken is cool, I designed it myself. If you need any advise on making whirligigs I would be happy to help you. e-mail me at camp7436@comcast.net.....Mike
