SSWC 32: Autumn Leaves Coasters

Question about the Autumn Leaves Coasters by Gary MacKay: In step 2 on page 29 we're directed to tilt the left side of the table down 30° and cut counter-clockwise. From my eyes, the table in the picture is tilted left, but it looks like the cut is going clockwise, not counter-clockwise. Is this a typo?

I agree with you Bruce, to me, that is cutting clockwise, and that is the same direction I cut the ones I did. In photo 4 though, I cut it exactly opposite the way shown.The ones I cut for them were the ones with the orangeish dyed leaves on page 28, and the logo ones on page 30. To me, they turn out much nicer cutting in that direction.
edit :There is always confusion with the clockwise, counterclockwise cutting, some refer to the way the wood is spinning, and some refer to the actual way the cut is going.Its a never ending thing, like chicken or egg thing.

Another note, I also prefer having the outer rim at less than 30 degrees.I think they look nicer cut at 15 to 20 degrees.If you are cutting them so the very bottom is larger than the top, you may find that at 30 degrees you may end up with a couple places where there doesnt appear to be enough wood. Best to do a practice run, and see exactly what you prefer.

Dale hit the nail on the head. In that photo, the wood is spinning counterclockwise. We chose to do that because the wood is what is actually moving. It is confusing, and in the future I'll be more specific and say "Move the wood counterclockwise."

Photo 4 gives you an out, because the text mentions both directions depending on the look you want.
