Default Poll Discussion: How many projects do you have going at any one time?

Here is a place to discuss the new poll.

I typically only do 1 scrolling project at a time but I'll often be working on something else at the same time just to get away from the scrollsaw, could be something as simple as frames or as complex as a piece of furniture.

No more than 2. Sometimes when working on a project that is mentally fatiguing like a portrait, I'll switch to something simple just to clear my mind. As if there was much in there to clear.

There are an infinite number of projects going on at one time in my head but I would say between 5 and 10 in the shop.
Not becaues I am creative, more because I procrastinate.

Well I am bad about this. I ALWAYS have at least one intarsia and one fret project going. That doesn't count jewelry boxes (all have some scroll saw involved) or stuff like re-finishing the neighbor's kitchen table or bathroom cabinets.

I would hate to finish something and just be done! It seems to keep me moving nicely if I have something else part way started

Ok, I am a mess, at least I can admit it...

How do you define going? I seldom have more than two that I am cutting on but usually glue up and drill 5 - 10 at a time. Trying to define the question.

I have many going at the same time because:
Projects get cut and then put aside for sanding. Then things get sanded one day and put aside again in different piles, one for painting and one for dipping.
Also I may cut the outside with one size blade and so I cut with that blade until it is finished and then switch to a smaller blade for the inside cuts.
Phew!

I mostly do segmentation or intarsia, and usually have 5 or 6 going at once. I am not good at picturing what I want the shape to be. So I have large trays that each project sits on, and I move back and forth between pieces. If I am doing killerwhales or other sea critters I try and do 5 at a time and each will have its own tray. I have made a mobile tray rack that will hod 15 24"x24" trays.
If I get stuck the tray gets put away for a while, and brought out when I think I can add to the piece.

I had never really thought about this, but went down and counted the half-completed stuff. I have four serious pieces at various stages of completion and another four in the late planning stages.

Having said that, if someone asks me to do something or the need for a gift comes along, that would take priority.

I also garden, sew. sing (so songs have to be learned), and at present we are rebuilding a boat and I have just started totally redecorating our main bathroom. There is just never enough time, so everything comes along at its own pace!

G'day all,
Multitudes
Like Diane, I cut the outsides of the pieces using a heavy blade, so just keep on cutting till the blade is RS then go onto other things. I also bevel cut as many pieces as I can while the saw is tilted.

My pet hate is setting up machines, so once one is set, as much as possible is done on that set up before moving onto the next.
